NEWKID 29,317
Yesterday morning I decided to call a halt to a small after the pub party involving my brother his wife my wife and a bottle of vodka, it was around 5am when I carried the missus to bed, so when the door was being knocked down at around 8-30 my whole body screamed "no!" Gav and Bruce had travelled down from North Devon it was to be a nice social day on the farm up the road, I had lamped it last week and had decided to ferret a large hedge dividing 2 sheep fields where I saw a good number of rabbits run. I felt suprisingly Ok and was looking forward to a good day with good lads and dogs, Gav had brought his little pack, Bruce had his lurcher Druid and I had my 2 we had 6 ferrets long nets and purse nets, rabbits beware. Bella marked straight away we set the long nets, and put purse nets on the runs through the hedge, and steadily worked the hedge, we had 2 100 yrd nets and 1 50 yrd the hedge was around 400 yrds long. rabbits steadily bolted and we had 2 tough digs 1 we got down so far before my jrt bella buried herself in the hole and pulled the rabbit out. the ferrets worked hard these are thick hedges and old deep warrens. A couple of rabbits were missed, 1 slipping a net I had set on a run We ended the day with 13 hard earned rabbits, It was a good day in good company I enjoyed the banter and Bruce is an old school country man with a wealth of knowledge, I've told him abouth THL and I hope he comes on for a look he'd have some interesting tales to share. NEWKID 29,317
Cheers Sean, I definately suffer more now than I did in my 20's and I've been told it only get's worse, but I wasn't too bad on Saturday, I had my 2 mates down from Torrington first thing so I couldn't let them down anyway. This farm is near the top of Haldon, the next couple of weeks we're up in cullompton to do a bit but back at Haldon after that if you fancy that day out wouldn't be a bad run for you, I'll give you a shout nearer the time. We haven't got long left starting to find young in them now Quote Link to post
