Ferret nipping

Recommended Posts

Got myself one at last, the fella said it's ok with handling, but when i picked it up the second time it nipped at me, not a proper teeth sank in bite just a nip, throughout the day it did the same, nothing too hard just enough to make me pull my hand back.

Is this just the reaction of a ferret to someone new or is there any way to shape it up a bit, im more worried it will bite the boy when it decides to really take a bite.

On the plus side the terrier seems quite chilled out with it, following it round the yard

Aye ...and keep handling it. May just be playing with ya. how old is it?

not sure of age but lad said its not too old, if that makes any sense to you

Just follow the instructions on the packet you'll be grand ;)

Agh if its a young un then it may just need some tlc and a pont in the right direction .......keep handling and all the other suggestions and im sure you'll have yourself a decent ferret...........or no hands left :tongue2:

Dont wear a glove Marv it will sharp learn the difference between a glove and your skin..make sure it is well fed when handling it and do everything in slow motion..dont snatch and grab and dont hold it too tight..with gentle handling and a bit of patience im sure it will all fall into place.. ..if you want me to have a nip round any time and have a look at it give me a shout..

Just text the lad to see if he can be clearer on the age, the main priority was to proof the dog so its not too bad really.

i think this is fairly common of a ferret thet's not handled enough so just keep on handling using the advice already given and you should be fine,i'd guess that "not too old" means between a year and two,for what it's worth, and a rabbit will be fine and cut up will last a week for one ferret,

just another point, ferrets like company... ;)

The minced bunnie is ok but don't feed only minced bunnie every day or for too long over a week..they need a mixed diet realy feathered stuff which might be awkward for you to get..you can get the bag's of complete ferret food to feed it on and give it the mince 3/4 times a week..the odd egg will go down nice and the odd bit of tinned dog food..just make sure you have a rabbit water bottle with water in at all times.. :victory:
