shootlodge 146
Depending on your cartrages you use, keep to a safe 40-45yds range No6's wil do the trick in 30/32gr for most birds & ground game.To gauge distance , walk 45 paces, from your hide, or shoot point. Put a stick in the ground, Go left/ right & forward. Thats your kill zone, you shot will travel a good 100yds, with not much impact, so keep the shot direction 200yds from any road, houses etc. Good luck. Quote Link to post
mattydski 560
A couple of main things to try an remember.... The main reason most people miss is they stop the movement of the gun when they pull the trigger.... keep the gun moving.... Gun fit and mounting is important.... practise putting the gun up to your shoulder...and aim at the corner of the room.......and keep doing it until you can do it with your eyes closed, and it come up to the right point on your shoulder.. If you cant get it right....then consider checking your gun fit with a professionally. Dont worry about cartridges...they just complicate things, get the cheapest no 6 you can... and fire loads of them. Keep ranges to a minimum... 35 yards, is not as far as you think it is.... If yo are shooting from a hide, then Id go with the advice above. When shooting, pick up the target in your site picture, mount the gun, still fluidly moving, follow the gun through the target from the tail to the beak, get in front, keep it moving and pull the trigger.. The lead will depend on range and speed.........that you will have to learn for yourself.. lastly......... for something to become normal without out thought... ie...within your muscle memory, takes 30 hours of practise... so you need to get out and shoot stuff... SNAP SHOT 194
Also to add, practice makes perfect, and 3 or 4 times a year ain't gonna cut the mustard... get out as often as you can.... and you will see a marked difference... Snap. Quote Link to post
The Seeker 3,048
3 to 4 times a year I'm afriad is nowhere near enough if you want to improve your shooting. If you can't make it more than this then sorry to hear it, but if your serious about improvement then there is nothing better than getting lead in the air. Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
I am afraid to say mate if that is all you can get out, and your shooting is as poor as you say then you really should not be shooting live quarry, make sure your gun fits you for a start, then get some lessons on the clays with a qualified coach, that will make all the difference, best of luck.
