Greetings from New Zealand

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, having just found this site and having become quite addicted to the forums I thought it was time to introduce myself.I live in the Far North of New Zealand with my wife and 3 kids,we live on a 5 acre property surrounded by big dairy farms in the foothills of a range with a 15 minute drive to either coast.I'm the grader driver for a company that has the contract for road maintenance for the entire far north, great job tho it does have its moments, some of these roads are pretty narrow with big drops off the sides. This allows me contact with a lot of farmers and to keep an eye out for wild pigs moving thru the area,I've done a fair bit of pig hunting over the years, and loved it,but really it's a young mans game, and having turned 50 this year I've been looking at trying my hand at a bit of terrier work.I bought a little pup off a mate of mine a couple of months ago and I'm hopeing he'll take to it,like a duck to water,he's coming up 5 months now and showing good interest all ready.Max is a Jack Russel/ Mini Foxy cross tho he has the body shape of the short legged JR variety,I think he'll probably end up 10 inch or so,we'll have to wait and see,bit of a hard bugger tho.Fox was never introduced in New Zealand so our prey will be rats, rabbits, hares,oh and the 40 million possums that plague this country. Its a bit tough because the wankers in Govt banned the buying and selling of ferrets so that went by the by some 10 years ago, supposedly to save the native birds, tho I still see wild stoat and weasel in my travels, still plenty of them around.Anyway thanks for reading my yarn and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all,I will post some pics of Max when my girl can find the usb cord for the camera.Good Hunting.

do people hunt tasmanian devils or did they with terriers?

NO they act tough but not as tough as the catoons would have you believe. an average terrier would smashone pretty easily. Just in case your not sure they are fron Tasimania whish is part of Austratia not New Zealand The land where the whole nation plays Rugby. But dont mention it.

they eat carrion and fight amongst themselves alot but are not perticularly agile creatures. they do not run and hde, they do not need to as they have no preditors except maybe a bird of prey. and they really do not bother anyone. just go about there own business in their grumpy way.
