Burst outside tap help

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. My outside tap burst everywhere last night. Seems to be one of the joins from the pipe to the tap. It's an old brass type tap and seems to be spraying water from the bolt to join the pipe to the tap. I've turned the water off from the inside. Is there anything I can do?

Is there something I can put over the 'join' to seal it? Need the tap to wash the dogs down.

Would get my dad to help but this is my first house and he's miles away. Don't have anybody close to help so I'm on my own two feet so to speak. Any help appreciated.

sounds like its getting past the olive, undo the nut and on the pipe about 6mil from the end there should be a raised ring, try wrapping some PTFE tape arround this and doing it back up, if that does`nt work or the raised ring is closer than that to the end of the pipe then replace the olive and retry

I'd try and get the olive off and start with a new one. Saw the olive cross ways with a junior hacksaw being careful not to saw the pipe, then split the olive with a screwdriver. Put new olive on, three wraps of PTFE tape on the thread of the tap (Going the same way as the thread otherwise it will come off) and tighten it up.

Was it frost damage VDL ?? Could be something else if it is, split pipe maybe.
