What's the legislation regarding having pups ears tattooed to identify if stolen, just something that came to mind with the amount of stolen dogs been talked about on the forum.

Perfectly legal. My lurcher has ear tattoos but thats to identify the cross etc, but records of owners are kept with that as well so they can be used to trace a dog

 

You could tattoo a postcode or somit maybe ??

not saying its a bad idea to have them done but by no means will it stop them getting stolen as mine did but obviously may help in the recovery of them if your very lucky

Hi Marvin, not sure about legislation or need for registered tatooists? Tattoo registration over this side is for greyhounds only. I tattoo my terriers with a personal identifier (my initials) and the year they were born and keep a record at home in case they are stolen. I would not consider micro chipping working dogs due to "work" tatoos and bringing unwanted people to my door. This way is a personal way. If someone robs my dogs and i track them down then I go get them and have proof they are mine. The hard part is finding them. You can get your own tatoo kit from Lambrier on the internet.

well if they want it theyl have it anyway a dont think a tattoo will make any difference unless the dogs hard ha ha
