J Darcy 5,871
Stealthy1. It's a funny old game, I have had the exact same happen to me on a couple of occasions. The pheasant will have been able to fly if it had have wanted, but i think some times the gamebird tries to mock the dog. I have only seen them behave in such a manner when there is a dog present and never from just a human being on their own. Just like the capercaillie and black grouse do in europe when disturbed by those specialist bird dogs, they flap up into the nearest tree. The hunter then puts a stalk in and shoots the game bird out of the tree. I think that there's something in the pheasants mind when theres a dog involved. Maybe. Just an observation. I hope he tasted nice!!! JD Quote Link to post

JD The pheasant was'nt bothered by the dog at all, it had its wings dropped in a threatening manner, and has its head down staring at the dog, just like it would if it was territorialy displaying at a rival cock, it gave me the impression it knew it was safe, maybe it had seen its fair share if foxes and was treating the dog with the same disrespect It went quiet as soon as it saw me though, unfortunately for it, thats when I pulled the trigger I like casseroled pheasant, and it hit the spot ladled on top of some mash potato Quote Link to post
