B.P.R 2,798
Just wondering if Anybody had heard of lab x collies being Bred specifically as gundogs? I've got a 2 year old from a rescue centre and been doing a bit of research I can Only find the information on Wikipedia. A friend of of My dads has seen this dog and reckons she has had some training as a Gundog prior to be getting her. He thinks they may have added collie into the mix to Add brains but is only a beater himself so doesn't know. My dogs mad for it, all she lives for is retrieving ad having never had a lab before I think her instinct is phenomenal. I've yet to try her at live game(beating etc) although she has retrieved shot pigeon. Would you Consider this a good mix for a gundog? All I Can say is she is highly trainable and only wants to Please. Quote Link to post
Lab 10,979
Should be alright but it will be like any dog...it will have its faults with the cross. Chances are the cross was a mistake and not likely the Lab or the collie was a worker. Should get a half decent trainable dog out of it, not a world beater. Good luck with it though.....Hope you can get into a beating team mate and get the use of her.... Quote Link to post
Carraghs Gem 1,699
i know of a gsp x collie that is working, the dam was a well bred gsp who was a pet due to being gunshy so it had a good dose of working blood on one side its supposed to be a decent enough dog Quote Link to post
B.P.R 2,798
Thanks lads. Hopefully get a bit of beating over the winter and see how she fares. Not after a world beater, none of my dogs will ever be that but I'm sure once I'm out with her and she sees what she's supposed to be doing she should click. Quote Link to post

If you get the right breeding, put in the time and a slice of luck theres no need to say you wont have........ Quote Link to post
mackay 3,676
Wasn't collie blood added to the field trialling lines a few years back to sharpen them up competition wise ??. 1 Quote Link to post
ftm 3,357
i had a collie that i could use for a wide variety of things ie-ferreting ratting beating shooting etc so i think the lab x collie would be a canny dog to work with good luck Quote Link to post

samearl14 11
If youve already got 5 dogs and not enough time to work him, why did you get it in the first place? Quote Link to post
B.P.R 2,798
This place never fails to amaze me! One week and your selling it? You must know your situation before hand? Why get it in the first place? None of our business but too many dogs get passed around from pillar to post. And why not give him away? I got Mine for £40 donation, £150 for a mongrel that you've had 30seconds. FFS Quote Link to post
GrCh 856
I'd stay away with anything with lab in mate. Get a Springer x collie. Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,217
I'd stay away with anything with lab in mate. Get a Springer x collie. Yes, labs are gay, and often over weight and i have heard that often owners become like their dogs. Edited December 10, 2011 by Ideation Quote Link to post
