Please don't just buy them without having any knowledge they aren't a disposable item. Liam Quote Link to post

Bunny Boiler 177
Nets - Don't be cheap. Get either thick nylon, hemp or good spun poly. I find 3"6' work well on most holes. I would get at least 20, in case of a larger warren if you're starting out. Finders - These aren't massively expensive compared to shotguns, New Air guns and even some fishing rods, the difference is that it's not a must to own one, just safer. They can be picked up second hand with 2 collars from about £. Ferrets - Get at least two, maybe even 3 or 4. Make sure the hutch, cage or shed has plenty of space, things to play on and is going to be warm enough. They are social and active animals when they are awake and will get bored. Mine like playing with the tubes, stairs and the cat balls with a bell in the middle. Technique - Post your location on your profile and try to find someone near to you who does ferreting and try to organise a day out. Hunters are kind people that are mostly willing to teach others the arts of hunting. Try to avoid poachers though, they will give you bad habits. Permission really isn't hard to acquire, so make sure you get it and avoid trouble. Hope this help, Bunny. Quote Link to post

Bunny Boiler 177
What bad habits do these poachers give you Poaching for a start. I found that poachers treated the ferrets with little respect either. To them, it's just a cheap tool, it's fine to bugger off and leave it down a hole if they get caught and run. They knock their ferrets around, they tend to be stolen too. I may be rather stereotypical here, but from the poachers I've seen, I don't like it and so would avoid it. Atb, Bunny. Quote Link to post

jmilam08 193
So because someone does a bit of poaching that means they gotta knock the ferrets about and mistreat them.that's like saying every man who drinks Stella is a women beater! It just ain't true. Permission iv found isn't that easy to come by if your in a place where its all been tyed up or worked for years, like where I live,so poaching or going out with someone who knows the odd warren out of the way to work is a god send fir some people. Just my opinion. If your just getting started in ferreting mate id say plenty of nets is a must along with a decent shovel, and someone with you who knows how to use it If the warrens run deep. rotton123 7
get out with some guys with permission before getting any stinkers and try getting some permission yourself ask loads of questions on here and get out knocking on farmers doors.bloody hard these days though. have a look on you tube and stuff like that to see how people set up nets and long nets etc speak to people about dispatching rabbits before your faced with a squerming bunny tangled in a net hence getting out with experienced guys. happy hunting Edited November 6, 2011 by rotton123 Quote Link to post
