If i gave a man a dog on trail and he dug him 3 days in a row sore and then he gave him back ,i wouldn't be a happy man

He did 6 hours today and you think he'll do better on well educated game tomorrow? If he does okay tomorrow will you try him a third time the day after? Just to be sure like. How many days was he with

Send him back he is staying to far away from his job and he is getting the run around.

only one time ive ever paid for a terrier young and dull at the time this guy gave me all the bullshit on the fone this dog will do that this dog will do this up i went with my 200 hundred pound to pick this dog up big strong black dog first thing he said have you a bitch i replied yea work him with her he said i thought your jokeing me aint you he started laughing so i took it as a bit of banter took the dog tried to box him up b*****d nealy bit my hand off thought he may be nervous of me so out the next morning same thing like a crocodile trying tho box him tried him 20 mins out took him back i said the dogs shit a nasty as hell he said no way took him off me stroked him on the head he bit him on his hand and me and my mate had to choke this terrier of his hand him screaming he could of kept the 200 hundred pound just for that moment

I've got shy dogs that are great workers. Some won't be picked up by others or go near someone they don't know but I have leant my dog that is most like that to people before. They lead him to where he needs to do the job he does it. They get him off the game. They don't need him to want to come to them. Yes I have seen dogs that take a few days to acclimate. You take them out a few days they don't go. But it shouldn't take weeks. It just should not. I haven't seen it take longer than a week with a bit spent with the dog each night working with it in the yard for it to become what it will with me as far as trust goes. After hunting several times it better show it's stuff. If it doesn't within 2 weeks of plenty game put in front of it, the dog isn't a good'un. If the dog is free or I really trust the guy who sold/gave me the dog I'll give it more time but a dog on trial ain't getting more than two weeks of my focus. This is a contradiction of sorts but I have dogs that will not work when a certain dog is present. I will put up with this with dogs I've raised and I know what they're capable of but really who wants to try a dog and it acts with such inconsistency and then fork over hard earned... hard earned money. I wouldn't do it.

If you liked how he did keep trying him. If not, why waste time. I tried a dog a while back. He consistently did terribly. I just couldn't believe how terrible it was. No dog that bad should have been offered to another hunter. I gave him several more tries, nothing changed. Fact is, it doesn't matter who is working the dog, if it's good it's good. As far as no good dog being sold, I wouldn't say that never happens. Sometimes a dog just isn't the style one hunter wants.

surely if its a good dog in the hands of a clown, itll end up a shit dog :hmm:

reddawn. I seriously believe that who raises the dog matters when it comes to it reaching it's potential. However, a dog that is worth buying should show it's stuff and should perform to a certain standard. Unless it is being beaten by the guy who is trying it, I don't see why it should fail to perform. Other than being beaten or poor health I am having a hard time thinking of any reason a good dog could be "ruined" within a trial period.

The dog I recently tried I believe may have made something if he had been brought up properly but he was obviously terrified of coon. He was a young dog and I believe he must have had too hard of an experience at too young an age. But I put him on 3 nutria and he wouldn't release hold on the things til I dispatched them. He was a small fortune for me so I wouldn't take him. Not worth the hassle. Was he ruined by poor handling? I think so. Was he worth money because he MAY have been good, IF he had been entered properly? No way.

The worrying thing is about lads buying ready made a dog that ive witnessed in the past ,not me i hasten to add ,is that the buyer is loathe to admit the things useless and next thing you know theres a ltter on the yard bred because the dog cost money and to lose face is not going to happen .Better to admit your mistake surely .

tidy digging boys dont sell working terriers if they packing in for sum reason they go to boys they dig with or others people they know in the game and not for a quick buck i learnt that a long time ago how could some one justify selling a dog for 700 hundred pounds i can understand sum people are stuck with lack of dogs and are desperate to get something tidy butt theres allways a fault there with these types of dogs
