Hi guy's

Been a while since I last ventured out due to the weather. Wouldn't be a problem if I still had my Hog, but I'm stuck with a push-bike for the forseable future.

I set of in the face of a strong wind and eventually got down the hill and over to my cemetery permission almost 2 hours later (usually takes me an hour to get back going up the hill!).

As I walked through the gates I saw 2 give it legs to my right towards Bunnyland, one big old buck headed straight down the central walkway towards the Paddock and a nice looking doe dived down one of the entrances to the central warren.

Got a card set up at 30 yards and checked the zero of the MK4 and the S200.

One click in windage and I had a 5 pellet in a one hole group+ 1 flyer slightly up and left, due to the wind. Moved from my zero area and decided to cover the end of the cemy towards the paddock.

My 1st shot presented itself on one of the trees in Bunnyland, a big old Crow Squawkin its lungs out as if to warn the bunnies I was there, Bipod extended to max croshair on its neck a gentle pressure saw me go through 1st stage, a slight pause for the wind to drop and a lil bit more pressure and 'tink' off goes the pellet. A puff of feathers and the noisy Corvid decended bouncing from branch to branch comming to a rest on its back under the orchard in Mrs G's back yard. Pleased with myself I put the bipod back to its normal extension.

Despite the wind I was pretty sheltered by the big bush on top of the central warren and two of the largest headstones, the sun was out and I felt its glorious heat on my back.

To many, this place is the entrance to heaven, to me when the sun shines and the robins and other birds singing and I'm doing what I like to do the place IS heaven.

My 2nd shot presented in one of the Taller trees (also in Mrs G's land) A nice fat woody, I could taste the thing in my mind as I shuffled my body and rifle to the face the bird.

Not looking at the bird (every time I look directly at them, they fly off!) I extended the legs of the pod again, lined up the shot and pressed the trigger and..... Nothing! :wallbash: I'd forgotten to reload

Very slowly I reloaded, not daring to take my eye from the scope, I drove the bolt back and locked it down, pressed the trigger mid breating cycle and the pellet flew true to its mark. It opened it's wings as it fell forward. :clapper: I watched it fall comming to an abrupt halt in the 'V' of a branch F :censored:K it's stuck halfway up the tree and I cant get to it. All I could do is hope that the wind would eventually free it. The taste of in my mind slowly vanished :cray:

Cursing myself for some unknown reason, I again shuffled round to watch over the warrens again.

Almost an hour and a half past and nothing showed, the cloud began to gather and I quickly found myself shivering and getting rather despondant :(

Another half hour and that was it I needed to move! Got up and had a wander over to the paddock, walking past the nettles after the old conker tree I spied a young 3/4 grown sat confortably and relaxed sideways on just over the fence. with it being so relaxed I took my time my eyes said around 30 yards, the LRF confirmed 31 yards. Nothing to rest on and the weeds and nettles preventing a kneeling shot so a stander was in order. The wind was blowing again so I placed the croshair just at the front of the eye. It was a little awkward trying to keep the croshair stil while standing with the wind, but I figured I could pull it off. A break in the cloud allowed the sun behind me to follow the pellet in flight, the wind however (and no doubt me wobbling in the wind) sent the pellet just off to the left, whizzing past the bunny almost carving a furrow un its fur! Needless to say I didn't get a second chance with this one!

So climbed through the fence into the paddock and was immediately greeted by the nags. They followed me right the way around the perimiter of the permission, I only saw one more in there and as I drew a bead on it I was shoved in the back by one of the horses causing me to stumble forwards. I turned and waved the group of horses away, not that they took any notice of me

Turning back I tried to find the bunny again, but it was nowhere to be seen.

Finishing my mooch I went back to cover the warrens again.

I sent a few more pellets at some of the Conkers still on the tree and some on the ground until the light faded.

About 20:00 I finally saw the my first easy meal appear it was a shadow and had appeared out of the paddock into the cemetery. About 28 yards easy shot

A flick of the white light from the Ultrafire and bunny stopped, 'Tink' and off went the pellet, a loud crack as the pellet hit home and the bunny did the tell tale forward launch out of my field of view, (I'd still been at 10 mag). I spent the next 20 to 30 minutes looking in the nettles and weeds for my meal. Could I find it? could I feck!

So although I didn't blank I didn't get the meat either.

Maybe I'll try again over the weekend, but very high winds are forcast again :(

Thanks Daz,

Gonna try again this evening, need to be out before dark and back here by 10 at the latest. Thats gonna take some doing, BUT I me a plan of action.........

The MK4 is my scope, a slight second from Leaupold (front objective has a slight blemish on the coating, but it only shows up if your shooting directly into the sun as it goes down. I'm after a scope shade for it to negate the flare from the defect during winter as I shoot a lot into the sun due to safety constraints). Great scope though 3.5 to 10mag, IR 50mm objective and side parallax adjustable with a 30mm tube.

I went back the following morning Stealthy, there were charlie prints in one of the molehills.Today before I sprayed my silver silencer black I saw blood on the end of it! That means that my muzzle had touched the missing bunny! :wallbash:

He was talking about a bike.

As soon as he mentioned it, I thought my luck was in for a Ruger Air Pistol

I went out last night on a new bit of land, very heavilly lit by street lights up top but down where I was at the bottom of the embankment, it was almost pitch black. Saw loads, but my night time ranging over new land was absoluely appalling  Probably not helped as the land goes uphill a bit. Missed all but one shot :duh: So I've made some reflective range markers for that bit.

Its hard ranging at night, like you say, set your markers up in daylight and go back after dark and see whats lurking :D
