The Duncan 802
Hi gang, I topped up on ammo today for my hummer and asked what other ammo is available beyond the hornady red tips I've been using to see if their accuracy can be topped (like I do with all my rifles - trying other brands to find the best). The Gunshop chaps answer surprised me. He said that they were pretty much all are made in the same factory - hornady, remmington and winchester. So there wouldn't really be difference in performance. Is this true? He could have sold me dearer ammo to try but sold me the normal hornady at £20 per 100. All comments gratefully received ! Duncan. Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
He is right, all made by CCI International I believe My HMR always preferred Winchester over all else though! Quote Link to post
andy s410c 63
Hornady have made red, blue & orange tips...guess what they all shoot the same through my CZ & also it's the same for my shooting partner Prices vary a brick of Hornady in the N/E costs around £120-125.Tried Remmington's(30-40) which i got with the gun & they performed the same....it's mainly down to the user's preference, price, colour or just general placebo tourettes about what ammo their hummer likes to chuck down it's neck... The Duncan 802
I bought some Hornady 20g semi hollowpoints too, not tried them yet though. Is there much difference in trajectory or grouping? I'd imagine they drop a bit faster. Cheers Duncan. PS whereabouts are you J J? I think I paid £15 for 50 of the 20g hornady stuff. Jesse James 2
Duncan. Surrey Mate. The 20g I have are not the hollow points these are the FMJ 17 HMR FULL METAL Jacket as they say on the box lid. I have not used the hollow points, so cant say about them sorry. I can say I was happy with the FMJ's, grouping and of course the cost.... but like the Hornady red tips better, Ok there more money and a lot of it may simply be all in the mind.. But I / them seem to group better. Lee. Quote Link to post
paulus 26
they have always been made by cci there the only manufacturer to have the technology to neck down a 22 wmr case to make the 17hmr case although i would have thought some of the other big boys would have invested by now.
