The Duncan 802
Hi guys, just looking to pick some brains. I'm really enjoying life with the CZ511 semi-auto, but my only (slight) gripe is that the trigger could be a bit lighter. Does anyone have any tips to make this smashing little rifle even better? Appreciate any help! Cheers Duncan. Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
Afraid I can't help you with the trigger but would love to no abit more about the rifle? Accuracy? Price? The Duncan 802
Just been googling - most say that its tricky to lighten the trigger. If you grind too much off the rotating cam it goes fully auto and empties the 8 shot mag in about half a second! With a dodgy scope (now replaced) I was getting a half to 3/4 inch group @ 50 yards; almost one hole groups with a bolt action to compare it to. Easily accurate enough out to 60 yards for boshing bunnies and now I have a better (unbroken) scope on it we'll see. But for more than 60 yards I have the HMR anyway. With RWS subs, it cycles as fast as you can pull the trigger (which can be expensive fun!) Actually, I got a bunny the other night that I wouldn't have got with a bolt action. I stumbled slightly as I pulled the trigger on a rabbit and consequently missed. However the rabbit bolted another 10 yards and then paused for a second - mistake! As I didn't have to wait or cycle a bolt, my next shot was instant and I dropped it nicely A truly excellent lamping rifle. paid £150 for mine in 'as new' condition and I'd be surprised if its had more than a couple of boxes of ammo through it, judging by the condition of the internals when I stripped it for cleaning... Very chuffed with it D. Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
Cheers Duncan, did you activeley look for a 511 or was it an opportunistic buy? Also is there such a thing as a case catcher for them? I no my mate goes mad when the silage chopper stops coz of metal in the ground! ( not cartridge cases, but don't want it to be ;-) Atb ant Quote Link to post
Deker 3,491
The 511 is very possibly the BEST out of the box Semi you can buy, even though it looks like it was designed after the Christmas Party at the RNIB!  Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
Cheers Duncan, did you activeley look for a 511 or was it an opportunistic buy? ( not cartridge cases, but don't want it to be ;-) Atb ant Hi Ant, it was a purely opportunistic purchase! I had in mind I fancied a semi and the CZ just happened to be in stock. I've not heard of a case catcher for them which it could probably do with, as even in daytime target practise, it can be very hard to account for all of the spent cases. My landowners don't seem to mind though, especially when vermin gets scarcer on their land. Actually, I think it is a fairly handsome little rifle considering it is a vermin tool. Even the beech stock has a bit of figuring to it so I think it represents massively good vfm. I've now removed the front and rearsights on mine as I wanted to fit lowish mounts for the scope and the rearsight then interfered with the scope. Personally, I think it looks better without the open sights. I'll get a pic up over the weekend Cheers Duncan. Quote Link to post
paulus 26
ive had 2 cz511`s and they are bob on, the trigger would need doing by a gunsmith, mike norris does a good job. Quote Link to post

matt_hooks 188
I bought the WMR version at the game fair a few months back. I wanted the semi in WMR, and it was the only one I could find. It cycles ok, but I have had a slight problem with cases splitting, and a rather worrying problem with the safety. Basically if I forget the safety is on and pull the trigger, then release the safety the gun fires. I've not taken it out since it did that (a true mechanical "accidental" discharge, that rarest of rare things) and it's due an appointment with the gunsmith. Once it's made safe I shall probably be selling it. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the rifles, but something like that can really destroy your confidence in a rifle. Thank god I always follow that all important rule of gun safety "keep it pointed in a safe direction at all times" Edited October 8, 2011 by matt_hooks Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
google mike norris, gunsmith, shropshire Thanks again Paulus I took it out this am with a different scope on it and fairly low mounts. I put 60 rounds through it at various ranges and found I can pretty much just put the cross hairs straight on a 1 inch kill zone and not have to hold over/under fro 15 to 70 yards! I'm getting used to the trigger as is and only occasionally pull a shot (off to the left a bit) when I'm not concentrating so the trigger is becoming less of an issue, and certainly not urgent. 1 inch group or less at 75 yards - incredibly happy!!!! paulus 26
good guns built to last rugged and reliable i found elley subs were the best for not jamming and winchester/remmingtons were the worst....atb paulus Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
Think I'll start making enquiries at the local gun shops Atb ant Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
Good luck ant! With hindsight, I wished I'd bought this instead of the brand new 452 Varmint I originally got! Quote Link to post
