Simoman 110
Some knuckle on those legs, hopefully he wont turn out to big, uneccersary but he looks a good stamp My advice jigsaw, just ensure the person you have training him has a good reputation, the fella with the sleeve trains the dog, not the handler and i had a conversation only last week with somebody who assumed because he had bought a well bred pup protection training wasn't planned as he expected a natural rin tin tin, me thinks he will have a shock
jigsaw 11,902
thanks simon, when do you think is the right age for starting him off,I was just leaving him have a relaxed upbringing for the moment, the trainer I hear has a high degree of knowlege with shepherds and trials. To be honest mate, i experimented with mine, you can start with a puppy roll/bite pillow(not a euphamism) at about 4 months and progress from there depending on the dogs temperament. My line were/are very high drive and forward and matured failry quickly, they often progressed in one manwork session from a bite roll-soft sleeve-hard sleeve with bite bar..... I think the basic control and bitework should ALL be fun and light hearted and treated as a game and the dog worked in prey drive until he is mentally mature, this may be 12 months but more likely 18-24 in many lines. When the dog is mentally mature and used to all the basic work under control and displayed commitment and a full mouth grip i then step up the training a few gears and test the dogs defensive and fight drive, a good protection dog NEEDS a good level of defence drive to be good, but too much and its its useless so its a fine line, for me a balance of 60% prey drive and 40% defence is ideal....Its difficult to explain on a forum and much easier in person or the phone lol
