KittleRox 2,147
Took a walk local yesterday afternoon and decided to clear some nettles away from the holes ready for ferreting this morning, went away to my bed dreaming of all the bunnys me and the dugs were going to catch today, I could tell they hadn,t been ferreted by anyone else this season and they usualy hold a few, So got up this morning, checked the nets, shouted the two dugs Roxy and Cass, boxed the ferrets and the wife dropped us off, headed for the first warren which was about an 8 holer the smallest of the day and netted up, managed to get stung on the brew laying the first net lol dogs seemed to be showing an interest though so stuck a ferret down and waited ferret emerged from a hole nearby so stuck her in a hole at the other side She came out nearby again so boxed her up and tried her sister, nothing home so moved on to the next The dugs were showing an interest in a couple of holes beside the wall, I hadn,t cleared this part but it wasn,t to bad so I netted up fxcken nettles nothing home here either so soldiered on to the next and netted up Noticed Roxys now beginning to stand at the opposite end of the warren from me, not something I,ve taught her, again both ferrets in and out going through the whole warren but again nothing home Now this part with the fence I know holds bunnys I,ve always steared clear of thinking there was bolt holes on the other side which is a big No No as far as crossing it to retrieve a ferret but after sticking my hand through yesterday as far as I could tell the bolt holes were in fact just diggings, so netted this one up and waited again nothing home so ended up a little pissed off and wondering what the fxck was going on because I know nobody has ferreted these particular warrens with the amount of cover I cleared away from the holes and there is always rabbits running about here when I walk past on my daily walks, its like the rabbits have thought that cxnts cleared these holes so we better fxck off before he comes back with they ferrets and dugs lol Oh well at least I was oot let the dugs and ferrets have a muck aboot while I waited on the wife to pick us up Quote Link to post

A lot of ours are in the bloody maize fields which are still standing for a good bit yet. And if with you it was as warm as it was here today . . . . . . . i really woulnd't be surprised if they are off and about somewhere. b*****d things. 1 Quote Link to post

Up until the last few cold winters, the rabbits were above ground most of the time round here. The only time they were in their buries was when they were breeding or on the coldest of mornings. You had to get out early after them or the buggers would be back on top. Hope we have another real cold one this year.. Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,217
Malt - aye mate, i pray for the cold, it keeps stuff below ground where it should be, especially some good frost and snow, and kills the bloody cover. In some of our spots the only way to get decent numbers with the ferrets is to pressure the rabbits to ground with the dogs, and you will get 5/6 rabbits from 1/2 hole sets. KR - aye it was shit today mate, too hot. Maybe they did vacate, how knows, but if so, they will be back! Quote Link to post

Thinking about it you may well be right Malt, the ground was soaking wet this morning and the dugs were marking well or so I thought, I was confident there was bunnys home, so they probably have been using the warrens overnight and then going somewhere else through the day, but where though maybe the other side of the fence which unfortunately I can,t access not through the day anyway Quote Link to post
