deano26 16
well went out this morning but came home with an empty bag, didn't expect anything else really with it being a new field and all. I have noticed were the active warrens are And.. there's a hell of a lot of crows and pigeons, so I am off to buy a few decoys and try my luck on the flying rats Regards Dean Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Sounds like you have a lot of fun on your hands there, some nice shooting too! Always good to hear how someone is getting on! Pigeon shooting is addictive and damned difficult, I take it you have a hide, if not get one, you will need it, A simple idea is the ubiquitous instant pitch tent in camo with a scrim or camo mesh screen in front... Sweeney-Todd 208
Hi Deano. Very pleased and happy for you mate, nice shooting. Look forward to hearing of your future outings ATB. Bill Quote Link to post
deano26 16
Thanks all, gun shop was closed so no decoys or scrim net till tomorrow. Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
Nice going deano and you bagged some very tasty looking bunnies there. Are you shooting feral or woodpigeons - Woodies are amazingly good to eat, but I wouldn't eat the feral pigeons (rats with wings as you rightly pointed out). Good luck, and if its woodies you're after, Moley is right: you will get more with a hide and deeks D Ps loverly rifle - can't beat a Weihrauch! Had a 97K myself and regretted selling it ever since - only so much room in the gun cabinet! Quote Link to post
bsa rifles 3
Well done on gaining more land to shoot and good shooting. Best of luck with the decoying, its a tricky game to master. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
There is a bloke on the pigeon decoying and shooting section here who does a wonderful guide to decoying for shotguns, works just as well for airguns, so ask him, I am trying to track him down but brains here is still suffering from flu! deano26 16
Thank you all. I will be shooting for both woddies and ferals, as there is a patch of woodland in the middle of one of my permission fields-perfect Mr mole- I will have a look for that thank you, I have ordered some of that camo that you recommended so will let you know how I get on with it Hopefully I will be getting a camo bet in the next few days, and hopefully some decoys- what do people find work best? Thanks for the comments on the rifle- I love it, I have been thinking about getting it tuned-its running 11.8-11.9 now so would it still be worth doing? Thanks all Regards Dean Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Do not get it tuned up, get it tuned down, 11,8-11.9 is too high, get it back down to 11.5 for Petes sake! 11.8-11.9 is too high, it might go over if ever seized by the police so please get it tuned down! deano26 16
When I say tuned I did not mean to up the power my friend, but just to make it a nicer rifle to shoot- blueprinted is it? or a v-mach kit ect? I know that it is a touch high. it has not long since been serviced, so im hoping it may drop a bit. how do you tune it down? Regards Dean. Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
Did your service include new internals such as a main spring? If so, as moving parts bed in, power can actually creep up. My old 97K in .22 started at 11.5 fpe and 6 months later after being used a lot had crept up to close to 14 fpe! I had to take a coil off the spring but it did go off incredibly sweetly. Not that it was harsh at 14. Cheers D. Quote Link to post
deano26 16
yes new spring and all seals. Before I had it serviced, it was sub 9 FPe , the gunsmith said when he re-sprung it he had it up at 18 and had to pin it back! I am aware that it is a touch high, but did not want to be shooting any quarry with sub 9 FPe. I have been searching the forum and have seen a few names and tuners floating about; venom, v-mach, tench? I am thinking about having it tuned to make it a nicer gun to use, and hopefully pin it back a bit. has anyone had any experience with tuned wiehrauch's? I am going to have it over a chrono today all being well. Having never taken a air rifle apart before, I don't really want to be pulling it apart to take a coil off. Regards Dean. gurtwurz 793
hi dean, if youre thinking about tuning up your HW, you might wanna give tony wall at sandwell field sports a shout as a few of the lads on here have had springers, particularly HW's done by him and reckon he's the mutts nuts, and fairly well priced too. i've never heard anything bad about him either, but i havent had owt done by him myself. i think zini and sweeney todd have had their springers seen to by him. cheers, wurz Quote Link to post
