wirral countryman 2,110
A good well bred russell or plummer will do everything you want,I have kept both for over 30yrs and have shot, flew my hawk over them, ferreted, bushed, and dug to them,I find there's not a lot of difference between both types, maybe the plummer has a better nose,my main advice would be that what ever breed you choose make sure both parents are steady worker's,don't buy the first dog you see, breeding is paramount when buying a pup so make sure the parents are steady,as for your kids, mine grew up with all my dogs and they just fit in to family life with ease, good luck with your choice,WM Quote Link to post

sweeper1gg 4
I have a patt and a russell both good dogs never bad with kids, the patt is the best because it more flexi more speed can jump like hell loves digging and a lot tougher and never gives in,the patt also has stronger feet. moonlighter 1,165
I would go for a border terrier. Good little hunters and nice around the house. The black terriers I've seen would have too high prey drive to make decent pets. Also I would pick a rough coated dog as they don't show the muzzle scars as much, which might be handy if it's a kids pet also. Quote Link to post
