darbo 4,779
a very hard question.ive folowed boxing through the 70s to the present day. to judge a fighter from the 40s 50s etc is hard just viewing old tapes etc.in my opinion ali would beaten him hands down.i also think larry holmes in his prime would have beaten him. gnasher16 31,476
Ive always felt Liston/Tyson would have been a great match up,as would Tyson against Shavers or Lyle etc...though i dont think he,d have beaten any of them....Louis would have made him look stupid,Walcott would have broken him up inside,Frazier would have had him on the back foot which Tyson just couldnt fight from,Holmes would have battered him,he wouldnt have been able to get round Foremans jab,Dempsey would have been too tenacious for him.....Jack Johnson and Ali would have played with him for as long or as little as they wanted....the list go,s on and on............Marciano was a far superior fighting man but obviously being 2 stone lighter Tyson most probably would have won the fight.......thats all without the fact against any one of them you have the possibility Tyson would have quit, pulled a knife, jumped on their back or something else ridiculous when things didnt go his way. 71 is lower than id put Tyson id put him in the top 20/25 simply because of the dramatic impression he made and theres no doubt he was a very explosive puncher..........all thats only my opinion of course and mines no more valid than anyone elses Edited August 29, 2011 by gnasher16
LAZYBSTARD 225
I've just had a look at ring magazine top 100 and mike is rated at 72 . This is why I think it's all a mater of opinion . Sonny liston is rated at 71! And it's my opinion that mike in his prime would have smashed Sony! IMHO . So who do u think could have beat mike in his prime? apart from robin givens

marshman 7,758
As you all no styles make fights it's my opinion that Tyson would have beat many fighters. From 13 stone little fighters like Marciano , Dempsey , to Ali and holmes, but feel he might have struggled against fighters like shavers , foreman. It doesnt matter though as it will never happen but is good to discuss!

Its those exact styles that make me believe just how far short Tyson would have fell against those fighters........obviously size is an issue when comparing to fighters of the past and you just have to be sensible.....for me a 14 stone Marciano would have totally overwhelmed a 14 stone Tyson....as an example.....but as you say it makes for interesting talking points.
