Guest Lurchers2006
POSTING THIS FOR A MATE, Today I went for a mooch with my mate, his lurcher and his two spaniels just to flush out a few rabbits for his dog as mine is out of action for a bit. On the way back they flushed a fox from a small patch of cover and the lurcher took off hot on its heels he grabbed it just as it was reaching cover and after a few seconds let go and started barking at it, when the fox ran again it grabbed but then let go and started barking again!! The fox then made it to cover. This dog has only seen rabbits up until now and doing well so totaly green on biting back quarry, hes about 18 months and of lurcher to lurcher breeding. My mate is abit dissapointed. Do you think he'll ever make a fox dog if brought on corectly? Quote Link to post
Guest Dale
could still have the makings matey , if it hadnt seen a fox before and still grabbed it , thats a start , double it up with a decent fox dog , mine did that * pre ban* grabbed back end of it , wrestled with it let go started barking then coursed it again , once doubled up he was fine , Dale Quote Link to post

I would echo Dales advice ,the dog may still make it ,but he may only take fox "doubled up",some dogs will bowl a fox repeatedly whenever it runs but refuse to go in and hold it when it shows its teeth, the same dog often does the business when teamed up .The problem with running two dogs on "Charlie",is that one often latches on one end and the other dog takes the stick, but to start him Dales Advice is sound ,[imo]. Guest Lurchers2006
My mate aint really that bothered about the foxes but I wud like to see the dog kill him as it was my uncle that bred him and of the six in the litter he's the only one not doing it so far!! My own dog will be ready to run by next week so i might give the dog a run doubled up and then stop till september Quote Link to post
