could feeding your pups rabbits lead to problems

Recommended Posts

Young dogs its best to give them skinned rabbits...as they get older and with plenty more kills under their belt then graduate onto whole carcasses..fur on the job lot...keep up with the worming and they,ll be fine...never feed just rabbit on its own for any great length of time because rabbit alone lacks certain vitamins a dog needs...Case in point ..i iknow its a little off track but its a fact..in the early 1900,s fur trappers in america were dying at an alarming rate...turns out they were living off just rabbit and never recieved the other vital vitamins they needed ..hence a slow and painful death...here endeth the lesson lol lol..atb stabba

when you start working your dog,my lad asked me the other day about it so just wondered if anyone had any problems when starting a dog off,ie trouble with retrieving or not wanting to give up the rabbit iv even heard of lads that have had dogs run the lenth of the field away to eat the kill,il be honest i dont really feed mine much rabbit anyway so not had any problems so far, touch wood, whats your thoughts cheers

ive never known it cause any problems. some dogs will just run the length of the field with the rabbit they catch because its just the way they are.( some learn to retrieve others just wont have it.) i always skin my rabbits then boil them for 5-10 minutes before i feed them the dog. i brought in a dog that would always take the first rabbit he caught to the other end of the field and eat its head, then he would be o.k for the rest of the night.
