Guest FTBBTH
i seen a guy today with a wooly coated saluki x type pup, i asked him what was in it, he said full saluki, i was like ? full salukis have smooth coats, why has yours got a wooly coat? he said its out of benji and i said well benji wasnt a full saluki was he, and the guy insisted it was a full saluki, so i left him to it, does anybody have any advice? i thought the wooly saluki coat came from wheaton, bedlington, or deerhound? thanks for any advice on wooly coated salukis, and what was in benji if possible Quote Link to post

Rain 232
also kim the saluki wasnt a pure either i dont think she looked pure but wasnt Quote Link to post
Richie10 345
I guess the question is, do saluki's throw the rough coat or was it introduced by an addition to the line, which was supposed to be bedlington. benji etc were all Saluki greys, so was there a rough coated saluki in the parentage. looking at some of the saluki types around the world there are some with rough coats. 1 Quote Link to post
fcuktheban 140
A bit of light reading from the old boys http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/195876-coursing-dogs-would-like-everyone-to-show-me-yours/ There are a few people on here with connections to the breed. Quote Link to post
Guest FTBBTH
cheers fcuktheban, but dont you think some of them just look like ur average lurcher? Quote Link to post
whin 463
yet to see a pure bred running dog with a wooly coat . i have saw moutain type saluks with thick collie type coat but never wooly, wooly doest lend its self for a good jacket at times ,hides cuts can get matted ,it doesnt stop it running but had beardie type and early doors sep yoused to over heat at times ,most saluks featherd smooth and thick coat like tazis etc Quote Link to post
Rain 232
Benki isn't a saluki grey richie 10 he is a saluki lurcher. Lurcher part being the bedlington the deerhound whippet grey and what ever else is in the mix he is far off a saluki grey. Quote Link to post
Rain 232
Benji not benki lol Quote Link to post
fcuktheban 140
cheers fcuktheban, but dont you think some of them just look like ur average lurcher? Yes, that's my point. There must be a bit of something else in them to make them have a thick coat, just like being brindle. The breed is not know for these traits and it is a sign of mixed blood. Quote Link to post
fcuktheban 140
Personally I wouldn't care if I had a Saluki with these traits if it could do the job unless someone tried to tell me porkies and take me for a fool. Pure or not I would still pay the same for it. Quote Link to post
