Boxing

Atheletics

Cycling

Swimming

MMA

Tennis........... At some time or the other they have had or still have the best at these sports and alot more

Boxing....wrong....Mexico

Athletics...wouldnt swear to it but my guess would be Russia, though fair do,s they still have a fair shout.

Cycling....dont know.

Swimming, possibly but id say the Aussies would run them close.

mma  who cares its not even a proper sport.

Tennis....possibly.

Of the worlds most popular sports only boxing could really be included, and they dont lead the world in that.....athletics though yes thats a fair point

My point being is the countries that harness the youth and improve their abilities tend to go on and dominate in their chosen sport. However we rely heavily on our kids being found or pushed on by parents with alot of money to invest. You can't tell me where you were born makes you a better sportsman (apart from some sports) alot of it boils down to the training and the conditioning you've had from a young age

Hang on a minute, Murray is scottish.   I've no problem with supporting our british sports men/women but when they come out openly stating that they don't follow the same sort of support I personall

By that measure he would never be

You say that but yes i do believe where you are raised makes a big difference in some sports......Some sports like football or boxing can lift kids out of the shit.......would Tim Henman or Andy Murray have played lawn tennis had they grown up on the Silwood Estate Bermondsey....no......would David Haye have boxed had he been brought up in a leafy Surrey suburb, probably not.......the greatest sportsmen this country have ever produced did not come from money, thats a fact......the beauty of 90% of sport is it has no boundaries.....pretty much anybody can be succesful regardless of background.

I think in this country especially it applies to quite a lot of sports....rugby is pretty much a northern thing, hockey is a university thing, cricket, well i dont really know who plays that :D but certainly football, boxing etc are the working mans sports......so i think location/upbringing plays a bigger factor than we realise.

Interesting little natter anyway

And whats rugby football it cant be both surely :hmm: ..not a rugby fan myself but compared to them soppy yanks with half a ton of padding and crash helmets rugby must totally embarrass them.

And thats a shame really who knows if the next big tennis star has been over looked because of their postcode or the school they went too. Football is becoming more difficult because as somebody has already pointed out if your not over 6ft plus and able to run all day you get overlooked. Boxing is one of the truly working class sports that anyone can aspire too...well apart from snooker & darts :tongue2:

A lovely ol fella who used to train boxers once said to me " every human being has a talent for something, its just finding out what it is " ;) ....I also believe we all have a talent be it sport,entertaining,academically,whatever.......it just often never gets realised.

How many naturally gifted footballers are sitting in offices not knowing it......your absolutely right

only a small point gnash,,, but rugby union is realy a southern thing majority of the clubs are from nottingham down to the south coast south ,,,, rugby leuge is played around yorkshire, lancs and the lakes.

there are a few spill over clubs nowadays like newcastle falcons, leeds playing union,, and london halaquins having a rugby leuge team

Your local leisure centre will want around 12 pound per hour for the hire of a tennis court.

It costs virtually nothing to play football.....it costs virtually nothing to box........pretty self explannatory really if your 2 young 12 year old boys out for an aftenoon of sport......but potentially they could well have a talent for playing tennis.

All sport should be easily accessible to all kids in any area in my opinion.
