KittleRox 2,147
great pics pal .have you got any of that g/hound x australian shepherd? i like the idea of that breed A couple of pics of Australian Shepherdxgrey two litter brothers bred by me. The dog in the middle is a first cross the other two are collie/grey x tazi My old guy 11 now and retired last year although he caught a hare last week his sons were chasing I guess experience beats youth sometimes. He is a first cross Aussie x grey As to some of the other questions I do run the dogs without the falcon sometimes and other times the bird and dogs end up running different hares. My young dogs have both done quite a few hares including one dog one hare but usually the falcon is there doing his bit. The dogs kill most of the hares but the falcon knocks down a lot of the hares which are killed by the dogs although last season the bird began to kill a much higher proportion of the hares himself usually with a single blow to the head. I have seen hares thrown 5 ft through the air by this bird when he hits them right. The courses themselves usually go a minimum of a 1/4mile but sometimes as little as a 100yds if the bird is feeling really hardcore and as much as two and a half miles. The ground I hunt has large areas of rolling hilly country that are near impossible to hunt well with just dogs as they get unsighted really easily. With the bird when they lose the hare they look for the bird in the air and can rejoin the chase. In some chases the hare may have as much as a 1/4 mile law and the dogs cant even see it but the follow the falcon and can get in on the hare. As to poaching other stuff if you get caght you can do jail time and I could lose my falconry license not a risk I want to take. all the best Terence Very interesting Quote Link to post

Blue one 89
Top reading and pics, thanks for putting them up. What is it like, living and hunting in Mexico? Quote Link to post
machine73 9
Hey Terrence, I grew up in Albuquerque and had my first duty station at Kirtland AFB. Lived up in the Heights for quite a few years. Last time I was back there I couldn't believe how much it grew. Sometimes I miss New Mexico but not ABQ! Way too much crime back in those days. All the best. Sean Quote Link to post

All the best. Sean Yeah its grown a lot, I have lost a bunch of good coursing fields to that growth. Albuquerque still has its issues they dug up a bunch of murdered prostitutes in one my hunting fields a few years back which was kind of creepy. Blue one New Mexico is not a bad place to live particularly if you like to hunt the state is pretty good for running dogs on hare and coyote and there is some fair pig hunting along the Texas border plus all kinds of stuff you can point a gun at if thats your thing including people. lol i like it here and it is nice to have legal coursing and 100's of square miles of public land to hunt on providing its not on fire of course which is a bit of a issue right now. all the best Terence Quote Link to post
