Cheers John iv got a 8 month old bitch doxhope, will let you know in another year or so! Not a giant but at just under 25 inch at the moment should be a usefull size bitch. im sure ive read they are a bit smaller & racier than most deerhound x's the sire to one of my deer x's (Nuala) is a doxhope bred first cross deerhound greyhound. At 29" tts, he is certainly not small, no different to what would be expected of a first cross deerhound/greyhound of any breeding - in fact exactly the same size as my own first x (non doxhope). Nevertheless a good dog, regardless of his size. Quote Link to post

Romany 1,065
Its not just the height..its the weight also, on average, across the board, Doxhope frist crossers were smaller and lighter framed than other similar crosses. But dont forget, the Doxhope line was primarily a bitch line, with both the first crossers and pure breds, some lines are like this, purposely bred that way, for example with the Roslyn line of deerhounds from Northern Ireland, where the Doxhope quality in bitches originated from..Brian Doaks Roslyn kennels in the 90`s oozed quality, in his bitches, Brian never coursed himself, but many Roslyn stock were noted for their coursing ability. Pure bred deerhound Litters were focussed on producing bitches around 28-29inches (within the breed standard) but around 65-75lb in weight, but more important to height, and what a lot of folk dont realise, there was an even greater focus on producing quality sound animals with excellent temperament and endurance free from structural faults so that they could run, great kennels are only as strong as their bitches...these smaller bitches also allowed the use of bigger males of good substance to be used without making the line go "too big" Doxhope dogs, wether they be pure bred or first cross, some will be tall, this is to be expected, axel from the lurchermania videos (Doxhope bred) was 31 inches and there have been many others..even lurcher x lurchers from distant deerhound breeding will tend to throw the occaisional tall, deerhoundy dog. So what! Some people like tall dogs, but the important thing to remeber, is the word quality, thats what you were paying for when you bought a Doxhope deerhound or first cross, and that is why the reputation is still strong after nearly 10 years since the last mating.
