hondo 45 Posted May 28, 2011 Report Share Posted May 28, 2011 i recently was visiting a yard where man sells dogs,as he was showing us around he opened a shed door and there was the skinniest shabby lookin pup 5 months old, i asked the man what breeding was she he told me wheaton first cross as i already have wheatonx doing all i ask i was interested in the wheatons already but if i never kept a dog in my life id have still took this pup,he then asked me if i wanted to buy eventually wit me insulting him for ten mins i had to pay fifty euro for her,when i got her home i gave her a durontal uad put a stronghold on her neck to clean her coat now my question to everyone is can i damage her stomach by feeding her to much yesterday i fed her six times,and she wolfed it every time what is the best and safest way to get weight on a very emaciated pup thanks in advance Quote Link to post

socks 32,253 Posted May 28, 2011 Report Share Posted May 28, 2011 firstly DO NOT GIVE MILK dogs are lactose intolerant and milk will just upset the gut more ... feed the pup little and often ... 6 meals a day sounds good as long as they are a sensible amount ... feed good quality chicken and beef and you will soon see the weight come on ....... 1 Quote Link to post

Mrs A.R.D 53 Posted May 28, 2011 Report Share Posted May 28, 2011 all milk contains lactose and as we know dogs are lactose intolerant ... goats milk has less lactose than cows milk but it still does contain it ... giving an already undernourished pup milk will just make its digestive system worse and slow down the process needed to metabolise the meal its given ............ i understand what you are saying especially if the pup isnt used to it, so what about the puppy milk that has been designed for pups would it be ok for him to give that? skinners puppy milk is supplmented with Bio-mos which is a natural aid to healthy digestive system ( says it on the tub). gaots milk has been used for years to feed orphaned pups and stuff so how can it be so wrong?
