lurchers not bred from working lines

Recommended Posts

With any dog it is luck of the draw whether the dog has it in them or not. Most people believe the chances of success are higher from a dog bred from workers. However it might just be that people who know what they are doing generally buy dogs from working lines.

Hancock and other people have made a good living from breeding from none workers

I was going to say the same but you got there before me

Yes and take into account how meny he has bred and they wernt coursing lurchers like he used to peddal them as in the early days [bANNED TEXT] he first started breeding.

The answer depends on a lot of things.

If the whippet has a lot of hunt in it but has never been worked and the greyhound is a hard chasing type that has held up well under the pressures of a succesful racing career then yeah, you might end up with something that will work.

If the whippet is a pet because it showed it's tail to game/ has no drive/ is timid and you put it to some soft non-chasing track reject then logistically the chances are slim...

Either way you would be way better off buying in a well bred pup from parents doing the job you want done.

A pet whippet to a greyhound isn't a lurcher ffs

Isn't a whippet x greyhound classed as a long dog? Was wondering when someone would state the obvious about this X not being a F'n LURCHER amidst the Hancock mythering/grizzling - Have had Bearded collie x greyhound (Hancock) for 5 years - yes she was a bit slow to start but she catches more than enough rabbits (caught a Winter hare too) for us - maybe the training of the dog isn't allways what it could be? Also have a (working strain) beddlington X and he's doing just as well and may be better next (2nd) year......Bad workmen blaming tools sprins to mind here guys! ;-)

most whippets will work if given the chance n greys should have it in them both being sighthounds its bred into them for generations a couple of pedigrees does'nt render them useless bring them up as a working dog and they should do the job some people r just afraid of there prized crosses out of this n that get dumped off something out of non workers

The chances of getting a good dog are slim and the chances of getting a rubbin rag when mating two pieces of crap are enhanced, why on earth folk breed from non workers and expect the next "dancer" amazes me. If you wanted a sheepdog would you breed from next doors show collie? Course not unless your a f*****g retard, breed from workers to give yourselves a chance, just a thought but then perhaps there might not be so much shit in the classifieds.......
