I only have pure kelpies now but my first kelpie blooded dog was bred by Dave Sleight from his first litter of kelpie/collie x greyhounds and it definitely WASN'T rubbish!

all i can say was that mine was. very biddable like a collie cross but work wise it was rubbish. gave it away to a farmer.

Kanigra, I think it may simply have been that mine took after the kelpie more whereas yours took after the collie more.

 

Although mine was biddable I definitely got the impression he was always thinking of ways to ensure he did what he wanted. Now that I've had kelpies for a while I've realised it's just a lot easier to work with them instead of trying to instill blind obedience: mine have a habit of always being right and proving me wrong. I've lost count of the number of times I've told my youngest bitch that there's definitely not under any circumstances a rat in a particular place only for her to bolt it moments later with her "when will you ever learn" expression.
