leegreen 2,254
gafaelgi anyone heard of these dogs? they are advertised in this weeks c/mans weekly.lovely looking dogs! Old thread but I still have one of the first attempts of these dogs. He is nearly ten and has been an excellent dog. The father was a small high energy working Rottie and the mother was a Presa x Bull terrier about 80lb. He has been one of the best dogs I've owned. He is approx 95-100lb 25-26tts, black and fearless. He is also pretty safe around other dogs.

leegreen 2,254
Surely this breed is older than 10yrs old ??? It is a recreation of an old breed, bred for type and temperament. Got mine as an unwanted pup nice and cheap as said a great dog.

Bootsha 1,306
Gafaelgi, roughly translated into welsh is hold or grip dog, gafael being to catch hold or hang on / grip, gi being the female connatation of dog, wonder is is s coincidence ?? Never heard of it before though but it does make perfect sense when translated into welsh. B

He is used as a family dog, yard dog and pretty much any thing I ask of him. You can't really play fight around him as you are likely to have your clothes ripped as some of my nephews have found out over the years.

Get a good GSD and have done with it . It's a cross yes but it has been bred and line bred to create a true type unlike the "have a go dog breeder" that crosses two dogs because they think it sounds good. And Bird I'm not looking for a dog yet, "good GSD" are few and far between and not all of us like that type of dog. I certainly like the laid back nature of a mastiff type, but not those big dribbly lazy types.

I certainly like the laid back nature of a mastiff type, but not those big dribbly lazy types. i used to breed bullmastiffs in the 80s, so know about big dogs, and in my honest opinion most large mastiff type breeeds are not great guard dogs. Yes they look the part, but most dont make much noise if you go your house or what ever they are there to guard. To me i rather have a dog stop sombody 100yds away, than confront them 5ft away , they would only have to shoot it end of dog. So with a good gds or dsd both will warn and attack if need be, you are right regards gsd, as there are lots of shit in this country, but i would go to other countrys to get a good one from good working lines, which with bit of luck be more healthy. The reason i came out of big mastiff type dogs is of health pros like (HD) and not long lived, and yes gsds are bad as well as are most big dogs, but like i said get a good one and you got great guard dog. But as you say maybe as the above is x breed, you might get a better dog (health wise ).
