1/4 bull 3/4 grey

Recommended Posts

We where out at the end season doing we bit off lamping l had my old bitch and my mate had his 1/4 bull and 7 months old pup not many rabbits about the land takes about hour or so to walk .We must have had 8 -10 slips each with the pup getting few runs on couple in the bed.

Coming into the last field there was rabbit right in the middle there is no fence into the next field and the dog chase into the 1st field going into the second the rabbit pulled away and the dog was walking after it wrecked.

Surely it should more then that in the tank, the dog was not pulling up after the rabbit it was trying but was walking any one run 1/4 that this happens to

7 months?

As above. 7 months it's still a VERY young pup. Why are people in so much of a fecking rush to start pups off? Give em time, more so with a lot of the bigger/greyhoundy types

As l said not my pup and not the way l bring my own up but everyone till there own so less pup and more about 1/4 bull 3/4 greys pls

 No probs, I appreciate that everyone has their own way of doing things, it's just that the last few years it seems that most people who are getting involved with terriers and lurchers can't wait to get them started. The bigger or more greyhoundy a pup is the more you risk damaging it if you run it too early, as they are normally all legs and enthusiasm and haven't worked out how to coordinate their speed, turning and stopping ability properly. Seen a few pups over the years receive some fairly bad accidents due to being very keen but unable to stop or manouvre quickly enough. I know that was slightly off topic, just can't understand why people want to rush their pups. Anyway, hope there's no underlying problem with your mate's pup. A l b

most 3/4 greys of any x will burn our quicker than 1/2 x or 5/8 greys. I had a 1/4 bull 3/4 grey, was good for dozen or so runs rabbits, then start to slow up a bit. If i wanted more runs, i would have to give a good 3 mins to get is tongue back, with each run.I think with this x, they go flat out on (every) run, which feckes them quite quick, but ive had the same with otherxs as well. When i was running foxes i had no prob , because you wouldnt get the same amount of runs.If i got 2-3 foxes in a night i was happy  , and to me this x is ok on rabbits but i think you can get better xs for the rabbit job. Bryn my 1x colliegrey as caught alot of rabbits in a night, after 15-20 runs he will blow any dog will, they aint machines.!!

Bruce 1/4 bull 3/4 grey 26in had him in the 80s, good on rabbit+foxes

looks very racy my mates dogs racy but its like a tank a big lump off a dog,and it does go flat out every run just as one gear but just dies after 8-10 runs it not like its getting slip after slip as we take turns.Told him think he needs weight off it but that is just the way the dog is built will try get up picture sometime

Might be a bit muscle bond/heavy in muscle after running behind the van, Id try and run the dog light and see if that makes and difference with his work rate/Recovery rate.

Iv seen dogs that were heavy run/turn shit then seen the same dog after a couple of months work a lot lighter (too the point people would think it need a good feed that didn't know about working dogs),

Dog that are heavy with muscle tend too gas quicker anyway just the amount of energy that's used in such short runs on rabbit, ( I'm sure one of the other on here will word what i'm trying too say a lot better than me on this. . . . )
