I would,nt own a lurcher unless it carried Deerhound blood,3/4 Grey/Deerhound i found to be the better option. For the allround working aspect i prefer the addition of a proper Collie/Grey.Bigger type lurchers take longer to develop and mature, this is where in the wrong hands the breed falls short, properly raised and entered, run on the right land,at the right quarry, these lurcher types excel and more than hold their own against other type lurchers.

every body has a dog that suits there needs each 2 there own all have up and downsides

They re slow to start and quick to stop !

probablie not as good as a specialist dog at any single quarie. But if my first cross deerhound greyhound pup can do rabbit, hare, fox, deer ( when bans gone ) when I come across them that will be a

had a very good bitch which i bought of him at 5 weeks old plenty on here seen her run on big ears on the fens and caught 3 out of 3 more than once with fair law given no choice in the club i ran in skycat and innan for two of here saw her run caught more than she missed like a lot say you only get out what you put in this bitch had a terrific mouth and was fastand could stay .

Are you still running deerhounds on big ears or have you moved onto salukis ? When was the last time a deerhound won a match? I Cant remember the last time a deerhound x won an obedience comp against collie xs, or a race against whippet greyhounds or anything against anything for that matter !

s.b you know coursing and I know coursing, i have no intention of comparing a deerhound greyhound against a saluki lurcher at daytime coursing, the saluki lurcher is unbeatable at the job fact!

but as coursing is on its arse now these dogs could well be of more value too many as more and more drift away from the agg of the match job.

Im in court 14th april for coursing and if the pricks take my licence and fu*k my livly hood It will be fallow all the way for me.

I was just making a few comparisons and playing devils advocat .Salukis are my game and if the coursing does eventually go tits up , i will run them as allrounders as i always have . I hope you dont get banned mate ,but if you got caught in cambs its gauranteed !If your on your first ban it will be three months max , probably two .You will work around it, i speak from bitter experience , TWICE !!!

theve got to find me guilty first I pleaded not guily, Its just one witness reckons he saw our dog running and catching a hare. we were exercising our dogs and had them on leads back at my sighn writen transit truck with my phone numbers clearlie on display, hardlie a subaru is it!

I find my saluki lurchers I have are good on hares and would give any dog a run for its money on the lamp on rabbits round my way, sharp takes squaters and Endless stamina.

but allrounders NO no intrest in charlie, certainlie not deer dogs and to be honest MOST the coursing boys dogs are the same.

If your not too far away from home you might be allright . Less than 15 miles and i dont think they can take your licence . If you v got previous though, the magistrates get to see it befor the trial !! All my coursing dogs take deer better than my old lurchers . Charlie, ok , a bit hit and miss but i wouldnt swap them for any other breed

Thats all that matters that they suit you mate.

they want to fetch my bad charicter up from 5 or more years ago but to counter that im going to take lettere and good refs from a heap of farmers in the area who Iv got permission to run my dogs on rabbits. we were "seen" 5 mile between my house, smack bang between me and my " co defendents  " homes. so Iv got a chance.

s basher i have moved on to saluki lurchers but had them same time as i had the deerhound cross got 2 youngsters learning their trade and 1 older one at the mo but none of them compare to rio my deerhound cross on longears . overall everyone knows the saluki lurcher is the main man on longears but that doesnt mean that other crosses cant catch them with style she ran in loads of comps single and doublehanded and was never outclassed win or lose .gotta say i have seen a lot of useless ones but that goes for saluki crosses as well same as any cross you only get out what you put in to them found that out many years ago .
