secretagentmole 1,701
Got down to the permission at about 11, got myself down the track, groudbaited and set up, here is the view I had.. Settled down and waited, wind was blowing down and to the right, gusty as well. Not a lot of action to begin with, so I made myself comfortable and then I saw some movement in the brambles by the end of the hawthorn bush on the left, then a head popped up! I took my time, lined up, made sure I was ready and pulled the trigger, bugs sat up! Bugs copped one in the neck, so I made my way up quickly and despatched with another pellet to the head, second confirmed kill!!! Back into my rut, I settled down and a brace of Kitts appeared, I targeted the larger one, size does not matter to me, I am on that permission to get rid of rabbits and no sentiment allowed, pow Kitt as well! Not a lot of action after that, so packed up! Anyway 2 down today! I think I might be getting the hang of it! Edited to say I saw Moby Bun again, the black rabbit! I will get it, I will!!!! secretagentmole 1,701
They are eating it, it works! Cheap bunny food from the Co-op! It works for me, the rabbits are eating it, they scud across the track usually, but the bunny food has been dropped where the small round droppings are, the ones they re-digest, so they are going for tasty treats as well! secretagentmole 1,701
They belt from one side of the track to the other, there are some first droppings (the ones they eat to redigest) about, so sprinkled there and in the scrapes, just cheapo bunny mix and they eat it! I have seen them. I use the flaked stuff, oats, maize, peas etc in a mix, it seems to get them to stop and eat that! I tried groundbaiting by applying my coarse fishing mindset to it and it does seem to work. They will hop into the track, stop when they encounter the food and start to eat it, I suppose it must be higher in nutrients and more appetising than nettles, grass and brambles, or rabbit crap! Edited to add rabbit crap: Edited March 26, 2011 by secretagentmole Quote Link to post
Karpman 44
Superb mole fella Loving it, cracking to see s bit of inative. Karpman Quote Link to post
rossi_j 99
Well done moley If it works it works However I hope you picked the left over food bait up when you left. . . A. Because rabbit numbers are directly affected by readily avalible food. B. Your permision owners wont be very happy if you turn it into a ratting permision  Bait aside, cracking shooting pal, keep at em Sp for pics, write up and original technique .atb. .ste. secretagentmole 1,701
Rossi there are flocks of woodies in the trees to the left (lamping damned nigh impossible) and the rabbits are very quick to clear it up! I put food down one day, gone the next and the rabbits seem to look for it when crossing the track! I don't put kilos down, just handfuls here and there. Costs money that stuff, £1 a kilo! Lol, I just pictured you sat in your bivvy hurling balls of it out lmao Just so you know lamping woodies is illegal, you cant use any artificial light for taking wild birds at night, just for your information so if you did get an opertunity you dont fall foul of the general license You may shoot them from roost by silouette tho Im not telling you what to do, just advising you on where you stand if you did it .atb. .ste. secretagentmole 1,701
Can't the lamp the damned things, like trying to be an AA gunner in the last episode we had with the people who make Volkswagen! As soon as they see the light go on they take off! Oh well, keep on trying lol! Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 793
no need to lamp pigeon, particularly as its illegal fella if you go for their silouhettes, just after dark tho it can be very effective, you can always support your shots where poss against trees etc. if you find that a lights making the rabbits take off then maybe a red filter will sort that, they dont notice it so much as they dont pick up red very well in their visual colour spectrum. well done on your second, by the way cheers, wurz Quote Link to post
