question lurcher or whirrier

if a bedlington x whippet is a lurcher n a russell x whippet is a whirrier or other types i.e patt r lakey how does that work out whats the diffrence

I suppose technically you could call a beddy whippet a whirrier and I suppose technically a whirrier is a type of lurcher,

a whirrier is generally classed as a short legged terrier used in the cross ie russel, border, lakeland etc the leggier breeds such as the bedlington and airedale are classed as lurchers.

i know but whirrier gets its name from the "terrier" part cant just move the goalposts

A lurcher is a cur dog or terrier crossed with a sighthound and a longdog is sighthound x sighthound so any terrier cross imo is a lurcher whirrier is just a daft name like labradoodle

It the same when you cross a Whippet with a Greyhound and they call them grews

Good question ! I tend to agree with Socks; I've allways thought of Beddy/Staffy/APBT crosses as "Lurchers" and JRT/Patt/Fell/Border/Lakie crosses as "Wirriers; but I'm sure both terms could be used for ALL types of Terrier/Whippet crosses !

PS, I don't think the name "Whirrier" is new; I've heard it used for at least 40 years.
