KittleRox 2,147
I suppose technically you could call a beddy whippet a whirrier and I suppose technically a whirrier is a type of lurcher, I can see your point though Edited March 25, 2011 by KittleRox Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
a whirrier is generally classed as a short legged terrier used in the cross ie russel, border, lakeland etc the leggier breeds such as the bedlington and airedale are classed as lurchers. Quote Link to post
wharrier 39
i know but whirrier gets its name from the "terrier" part cant just move the goalposts Quote Link to post
samstorm 34
A lurcher is a cur dog or terrier crossed with a sighthound and a longdog is sighthound x sighthound so any terrier cross imo is a lurcher whirrier is just a daft name like labradoodle Quote Link to post
wharrier 39
thought so as the name whirrier seemed to just come about recently Quote Link to post
fordie 8
It the same when you cross a Whippet with a Greyhound and they call them grews Quote Link to post
chartpolski 28,625
Good question ! I tend to agree with Socks; I've allways thought of Beddy/Staffy/APBT crosses as "Lurchers" and JRT/Patt/Fell/Border/Lakie crosses as "Wirriers; but I'm sure both terms could be used for ALL types of Terrier/Whippet crosses ! Cheers. PS, I don't think the name "Whirrier" is new; I've heard it used for at least 40 years. Cheers. Edited March 25, 2011 by chartpolski Quote Link to post
