Won't go on!!!!!Carry on my wayward son/daughter :D

Don't mind a bit of Floyd "Wish you were here" is my fave, love old Hawkwind Sonic Attack etc, like quite a bit of Dido "I'll go down with this ship" (I know its the most commercialsong she's done, but that doesn't detract from the content) is a cracking line...means a lot...lyrics are everything really...Though i do prefer lyrics that tell a story...here's a couple of crackers.

Carole King - Smackwater Jack

Now, Smackwater Jack,He bought a shotgun

'Cause he was in the mood...For a little confrontation.

He justa-let it all hang loose;

He didn't think about the noose.

He couldn't take no more abuse So he shot

down the congregation.

You can't talk to a man..With a shotgun in his hand.

Now, Big Jim the chief...Stood for law and order.

He called for the guard to come; And surround the border.

Now, from his bulldog mouth, As he led the posse south, Came the cry, "We

got to ride,...To clean up the streets...For our wives and our daughters!"

You can't talk to a man...When he don't wanna understand. No, no, no, no,

no.

The account of the capture...Wasn't in the papers, But you know, they hanged ol' Smack right

then...Instead of later. You know, the people were quite pleased 'Cause the outlaw had been seized,

And on the whole, it was a very good year...For the undertaker.

You know, you know, you can't talk to a man...With a shotgun in his hand...A shotgun in his hand.

Smackwater Jack bought a shotgun.Yeah, Smackwater Jack

bought a shotgun.Oh, Smackwater Jack, yeah...Talkin' 'bout Smackwater Jack, yeah.Talkin' 'bout a-Smackwater Jack, now.Talkin' 'bout Smack.Talkin' 'bout

Jack.Smackwater Jack, yeah.

One with a bit more reality about it.

Hurrincane- Bob Dylan

Pistol shots ring out in the barroom night

Enter Patty Valentine from the upper hall.

She sees the bartender in a pool of blood,

Cries out, "My God, they killed them all!"

Here comes the story of the Hurricane,

The man the authorities came to blame

For somethin' that he never done.

Put in a prison cell, but one time he could-a been

The champion of the world.

Three bodies lyin' there does Patty see

And another man named Bello, movin' around mysteriously.

"I didn't do it," he says, and he throws up his hands

"I was only robbin' the register, I hope you understand.

I saw them leavin'," he says, and he stops

"One of us had better call up the cops."

And so Patty calls the cops

And they arrive on the scene with their red lights flashin'

In the hot New Jersey night.

Meanwhile, far away in another part of town

Rubin Carter and a couple of friends are drivin' around.

Number one contender for the middleweight crown

Had no idea what kinda shit was about to go down

When a cop pulled him over to the side of the road

Just like the time before and the time before that.

In Paterson that's just the way things go.

If you're black you might as well not show up on the street

'Less you wanna draw the heat.

Alfred Bello had a partner and he had a rap for the cops.

Him and Arthur Dexter Bradley were just out prowlin' around

He said, "I saw two men runnin' out, they looked like middleweights

They jumped into a white car with out-of-state plates."

And Miss Patty Valentine just nodded her head.

Cop said, "Wait a minute, boys, this one's not dead"

So they took him to the infirmary

And though this man could hardly see

They told him that he could identify the guilty men.

Four in the mornin' and they haul Rubin in,

Take him to the hospital and they bring him upstairs.

The wounded man looks up through his one dyin' eye

Says, "Wha'd you bring him in here for? He ain't the guy!"

Yes, here's the story of the Hurricane,

The man the authorities came to blame

For somethin' that he never done.

Put in a prison cell, but one time he could-a been

The champion of the world.

Four months later, the ghettos are in flame,

Rubin's in South America, fightin' for his name

While Arthur Dexter Bradley's still in the robbery game

And the cops are puttin' the screws to him, lookin' for somebody to blame.

"Remember that murder that happened in a bar?"

"Remember you said you saw the getaway car?"

"You think you'd like to play ball with the law?"

"Think it might-a been that fighter that you saw runnin' that night?"

"Don't forget that you are white."

Arthur Dexter Bradley said, "I'm really not sure."

Cops said, "A poor boy like you could use a break

We got you for the motel job and we're talkin' to your friend Bello

Now you don't wanta have to go back to jail, be a nice fellow.

You'll be doin' society a favor.

That sonofabitch is brave and gettin' braver.

We want to put his ass in stir

We want to pin this triple murder on him

He ain't no Gentleman Jim."

Rubin could take a man out with just one punch

But he never did like to talk about it all that much.

It's my work, he'd say, and I do it for pay

And when it's over I'd just as soon go on my way

Up to some paradise

Where the trout streams flow and the air is nice

And ride a horse along a trail.

But then they took him to the jailhouse

Where they try to turn a man into a mouse.

All of Rubin's cards were marked in advance

The trial was a pig-circus, he never had a chance.

The judge made Rubin's witnesses drunkards from the slums

To the white folks who watched he was a revolutionary bum

And to the black folks he was just a crazy nigger.

No one doubted that he pulled the trigger.

And though they could not produce the gun,

The D.A. said he was the one who did the deed

And the all-white jury agreed.

Rubin Carter was falsely tried.

The crime was murder "one," guess who testified?

Bello and Bradley and they both baldly lied

And the newspapers, they all went along for the ride.

How can the life of such a man

Be in the palm of some fool's hand?

To see him obviously framed

Couldn't help but make me feel ashamed to live in a land

Where justice is a game.

Now all the criminals in their coats and their ties

Are free to drink martinis and watch the sun rise

While Rubin sits like Buddha in a ten-foot cell

An innocent man in a living hell.

That's the story of the Hurricane,

But it won't be over till they clear his name

And give him back the time he's done.

Put in a prison cell, but one time he could-a been

The champion of the world.

anything by Pearl Jam. Leash is my all-time favourite song. got a tattoo in honour of it. there's a line from it in my signature, which pretty much sums me up: "i am lost, i'm no guide, but i'm by your side..."

anything by Soundgarden, as Chris Cornell is a cracking lyricist. Soul Asylum too. and the late, great Sandy Denny wrote some beautiful songs. and Nick Drake... ok, i gotta stop now, otherwise i'll just list my entire record collection...

What the f**k is this world

Running to, you didnt

Leave a message, at least

I coulda learned your voice one last time

Daily minefield, this could

Be my time, bout you?

Would you hit me?

Would you hit me?

Oh oh oh...oh whoa whoa...ow...

All the bills go by, and

Initiatives are taken up

By the middle, there aint gonna be any middle any more

And the cross Im bearing home

Aint indicative of my place

Left the porch

Left the porch...

Oh oh oh...

Hear my name, take a good look

This could be the day

Hold my hand, walk beside me

I just need to say...

Hear my name, take a good look

This could be the day

Hold my hand, lie beside me

I just need to say

I could not take a-just one day

I know that I would not ever touch you hold you

...feel you...in my arms...never again...

and a gladys knight & the pips track, covered by eddie's old band, Bad Radio. i gotta learn this one. reminds me of my dad!

Daddy Could Swear, I Declare

Uh....Uh huh...yeah...ooh my mercy

Oh how I remember Daddy

He was strong and had a built in tan

Now though he only stood about five feet seven

My Daddy was a heck of a man (yes he was, y'all)

He loved us all and we knew it (yeah) though he showed it in a very funny way

But most of the time he was a cussin' and fussin' when he said what he had to say (now now now now)

Daddy couldn't read...Daddy couldn't write

But one thing Daddy sure could do right...he could swear...(oh oh) I declare (Yes he could, y'all)

Daddy could swear...I declare

I still remember seein' him in the backyard

Just a diggin' and a paintin' away

My brothers and sisters still talk about how Daddy lost his temper that day

You see he'd built a picket fence from the garage to the house while he sang Tell Me What I Say (tell me what I say)

The same day the garbage man backed into the fence and the whole darn thing gave away (you shoulda been there).

Daddy couldn't read...(Oh my mercy)

Daddy couldn't write...(Oh my mercy)

But one thing Daddy sure could do right

He could swear, oh, oh I declare (Yes he could, y'all)

Daddy could swear oh, oh I declare (Yes he could, y'all)

Tell 'em about it...tell 'em about your Daddy

(Spoken: My Daddy was a bad _______)

My Daddy wasn't no scholar.

No, no he didn't have a PhD. (wooh wooh wooh wooh)

But in my eyes, and way down in my heart, my Daddy means the world to me.

He'll probably go out cussin', just a fussin' and a bein' mad

But I hope the good Lord will understand that my Daddy's just bein' my Dad

(Now now now now now)

Daddy couldn't read

Daddy couldn't write

But one thing Daddy sure could do right

He could swear, oh, oh I declare (Yes he could)

He could swear, I declare

I declare...ooh, my mercy...cussin' and fussin'...I declare...that's my Daddy...he could swear, y'all...he could swear...talkin' 'bout Daddy...Talkin' 'bout Daddy...I declare y'all...that's my Daddy...talkin' 'bout Daddy

My fave is savage garden- truly, madly, deeply. Beautiful lyrics. :icon_redface:

I'll be your dream

I'll be your wish

I'll be your fantasy.

I'll be your hope

I'll be your love

Be everything that you need.

I love you more with every breath

Truly madly deeply do..

I will be strong I will be faithful

'Cos I'm counting on a new beginning.

A reason for living.

A deeper meaning.

Chorus

I want to stand with you on a mountain.

I want to bathe with you in the sea.

I want to lay like this forever.

Until the sky falls down on me...

Verse 2

And when the stars are shining brightly

In the velvet sky,

I'll make a wish

Send it to heaven

Then make you want to cry..

The tears of joy

For all the pleasure and the certainty.

That we're surrounded

By the comfort and protection of..

The highest power.

In lonely hours.

The tears devour you..

I want to stand with you on a mountain,

I want to bathe with you in the sea.

I want to lay like this forever,

Until the sky falls down on me...

Bridge

Oh can't you see it baby?

You don't have to close your eyes

'Cos it's standing right before you.

All that you need will surely come...

I'll be your dream

I'll be your wish

I'll be your fantasy.

I'll be your hope

I'll be your love

Be everything that you need.

I'll love you more with every breath

Truly madly deeply do...

Chorus

"Hurt"

I hurt myself today

To see if I still feel

I focus on the pain

The only thing that's real

The needle tears a hole

The old familiar sting

Try to kill it all away

But I remember everything

[Chorus:]

What have I become

My sweetest friend

Everyone I know goes away

In the end

And you could have it all

My empire of dirt

I will let you down

I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns

Upon my liar's chair

Full of broken thoughts

I cannot repair

Beneath the stains of time

The feelings disappear

You are someone else

I am still right here

[Chorus:]

What have I become

My sweetest friend

Everyone I know goes away

In the end

And you could have it all

My empire of dirt

I will let you down

I will make you hurt

If I could start again

A million miles away

I would keep myself

I would find a way

Floyd's Comfortably Numb is great, but one of my favorite's is Dido, Take My Hand...Listen to it if you get the chance...even if your not a Dido fan!!!!!!

Touch my skin and tell me what your thinking,

Take my hand and show me where were going,

Lie down next to me, look into my eyes and tell me, oh tell me what you're seeing

(CHORUS)

So sit on top of the world and tell me how your feeling,

What you feel, is what I feel for you

Take my hand and if I'm lying to you,

I'll always be alone, if I'm lying to you.

See my eyes, they carry your reflection,

Watch my lips and hear the word's I'm telling you

Give your trust to me and look into my heart and show me, show me what your doing

Wont go on.....but even if your not a fan, the lyric's and music are lovely.......

arrrrrrrrgh lottie thats really sweet :laugh::laugh:

Now every cheap hood strikes a bargain with the world,

Ends up making payments on a sofa or a girl.

Love 'n hate tattooed across the knuckles of his hands,

Hands that slap his kids around, 'cause they don't understand how,

Death or glory, (becomes) just another story

Desolation Row - Bob Dylan

They're selling postcards of the hanging

They're painting the passports brown

The beauty parlor is filled with sailors

The circus is in town

Here comes the blind commissioner

They've got him in a trance

One hand is tied to the tight-rope walker

The other is in his pants

And the riot squad they're restless

They need somewhere to go

As Lady and I look out tonight

From Desolation Row

Cinderella, she seems so easy

"It takes one to know one," she smiles

And puts her hands in her back pockets

Bette Davis style

And in comes Romeo, he's moaning

"You Belong to Me I Believe"

And someone says," You're in the wrong place, my friend

You better leave"

And the only sound that's left

After the ambulances go

Is Cinderella sweeping up

On Desolation Row

Now the moon is almost hidden

The stars are beginning to hide

The fortunetelling lady

Has even taken all her things inside

All except for Cain and Abel

And the hunchback of Notre Dame

Everybody is making love

Or else expecting rain

And the Good Samaritan, he's dressing

He's getting ready for the show

He's going to the carnival tonight

On Desolation Row

Now Ophelia, she's 'neath the window

For her I feel so afraid

On her twenty-second birthday

She already is an old maid

To her, death is quite romantic

She wears an iron vest

Her profession's her religion

Her sin is her lifelessness

And though her eyes are fixed upon

Noah's great rainbow

She spends her time peeking

Into Desolation Row

Einstein, disguised as Robin Hood

With his memories in a trunk

Passed this way an hour ago

With his friend, a jealous monk

He looked so immaculately frightful

As he bummed a cigarette

Then he went off sniffing drainpipes

And reciting the alphabet

Now you would not think to look at him

But he was famous long ago

For playing the electric violin

On Desolation Row

Dr. Filth, he keeps his world

Inside of a leather cup

But all his sexless patients

They're trying to blow it up

Now his nurse, some local loser

She's in charge of the cyanide hole

And she also keeps the cards that read

"Have Mercy on His Soul"

They all play on penny whistles

You can hear them blow

If you lean your head out far enough

From Desolation Row

Across the street they've nailed the curtains

They're getting ready for the feast

The Phantom of the Opera

A perfect image of a priest

They're spoonfeeding Casanova

To get him to feel more assured

Then they'll kill him with self-confidence

After poisoning him with words

And the Phantom's shouting to skinny girls

"Get Outa Here If You Don't Know

Casanova is just being punished for going

To Desolation Row"

Now at midnight all the agents

And the superhuman crew

Come out and round up everyone

That knows more than they do

Then they bring them to the factory

Where the heart-attack machine

Is strapped across their shoulders

And then the kerosene

Is brought down from the castles

By insurance men who go

Check to see that nobody is escaping

To Desolation Row

Praise be to Nero's Neptune

The Titanic sails at dawn

And everybody's shouting

"Which Side Are You On?"

And Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot

Fighting in the captain's tower

While calypso singers laugh at them

And fishermen hold flowers

Between the windows of the sea

Where lovely mermaids flow

And nobody has to think too much

About Desolation Row

Yes, I received your letter yesterday

(About the time the door knob broke)

When you asked how I was doing

Was that some kind of joke?

All these people that you mention

Yes, I know them, they're quite lame

I had to rearrange their faces

And give them all another name

Right now I can't read too good

Don't send me no more letters no

Not unless you mail them

From Desolation Row
