best way to start lurcher hunting feathered game???

wait a second, is this a common thing to do? I've never ever heard of anyone wanting to do this before...do you mean picking up for you when shooting or do you mean like actually trying to catch a pheasent/pigeon or whatever with the lurcher?

excuse me but just because i have never heard of a lurcher being used for retrieving game it makes me a idiot? Have you ever thought we may not do it in my area/group of friends...highley in appropriate comment and very much un-called for, i asked a gunine question...and anyone who has been out with my lamping/met me know that i know the crack.

 

And for your information i very very rarley do lads mags (entered that competition for a laugh). I am A art nude model and most of my work is sold privatly

I start them on what i shoot first bud.As for woodpigeon at that age they are so keen to please.never had to mutch of a problem.One good pluck then i let them carry for a bit.

....you just said the very same thing in your last post. A young dog shouldn't be started on pigeons because of the feathers falling out, wether its a lurcher or a gun dog. Snipe are great to start of with...... A winged bird isn't good either as it makes the dog want to run in, probably more a gun dog fault though rather than a lurchers...

OPEN,next doors ,poultry coop then stand back and observe.

think if they was going to have a problem it would be with pigeons

 

 

 

just meant generaly mate you would think its not ideal because they lose their feathers but as pups iv not had problems getting them on pigeons others might thats all i meant

Defo' mate its completely up to the owner and if they have had no worries in the past then its there choice. I'd choose not to as a pup wasted early is never going to come on to be anything special.

Like all dogs some just pick it up.As with others they tend to drop it the first few times as the feathers annoy them.Witch is there purpose.

I ment to say feathered game, we arn't all perfect at typing after 11 hours work. And just because i dont post pics of every hunting trip for all the antis on this site to see doesnt mean i dont do anything else ...like it says in my signiture, who needs to be bragging if your bagging?

cant believe anyone would take the time to introduce a lurcher to feather,they should be keen enough to chase a crisp poke blowing around.never ever did it,all my lurchers it just was a natural instinct to take the odd pheasant that was unfortunate to stray in its path.
