theres a video there catcher of two salukis. one always stays behind the other waiting for the hare to turn. am not sure if they do that so the hare doesnt turn as much and just keeps running. a reckon the dog thats putting the most pressure on its qaurry will get more than the one not so fast but you never know whats going to happen

a fast clever dog will allways imo be better than a slow clever one!!!!!

I very rarely seen a dog turn a hare into a slower dog. Usually because the slower dog just couldn't keep close enough to the action. Where 2 dogs were close to one another they got into each others r

Ideation hit the nail on the head when he mentioned teamwork. A couple of dogs that learn to work well together will often develop a pattern of behaviour when on quarrythat uses their respective talen

Moved to a new town in 1974.

The neighbour had a lurcher that basically fed its self.

Anyway three of us decided to have a walk around.

We took my dog and the neighbours dog tagged along.

The dogs put a hare up.Personally i would say neither dog was capable of catching a hare single handed.

But what happenned next astounded me.

The two dogs started circleing the hare. The dogs kept decreasing the distance between them and the hare.

The hare seemed confused and unsure so stayed put.Eventually the hare made a bolt for freedom and was caught

It reminded me of indians circleing a waggon train.

Amazing. :notworthy:

Ohhhhh the memories........does anyone else think the hash these days isn't as strong as it used to be???

Whats the problem? You never seen a dog hunt anything only chase stuff?

I've never seen 2 yes 2 I repeat 2 dogs sneaking up on a hare!!! From my experience dogs are jealous and no f*****g way would any of my dogs slowly walk up to a hare when another dog was on a lead nevermind sneaking up beside it!!!

Fair play, but that is in your experiance with your dogs. Now i'm not saying it happened or not, but why would someone lie? I've seen farm collies hunt like that, stalking prey. . . .

We can only draw on our own experiences mate. Yes I've seen it many time 1 dog stalking a hare but never 2. Can you imagine out with the mates, you both slip the dogs and they start circling the hare!!! Imagine having money on it lol, that would be a classic. I do think as someone else has said, maybe collie sheep dog would do this but Lurchers!!!

I know what your saying matey, but he didnt say slipped. You calling the man a liar?

Liar is such a strong word............. It's like this, you ever been fishing a local spot, somewhere you've fished since you were a kid..... best you have ever caught or seen is a 9LB Pike..... someone comes along as your fishing, says to you, some big fish in there, I caught a 25LB pike at the weekend.... Now, your gonna say, Aye, wish I'd seen that, best I have ever seen is a 9lb pike and I've fished it since I was a boy. Now, you ain't gonna call the guy a liar but at the same time, you need to see it to believe it.... same applies here. How many dogs have you seen or heard of that circles hares.... and I'm talking 2 dogs not one at the same time?

I havent put a statement on here to be ridiculed for it.

Your piss taking as back fired on you ,very witty but it shows the true extent of your arrogance/ignorance

Back fired lol, ignorance lol.... Look pal, it was a throw away joke but as for ridiculing it.....c'mon.... 2 dogs playing ring a ring a roses with a hare!!!! Just to make it more laughable in my head, were both dogs flat out, tongues lolling, eyes bulging... how big a circle did they start off on, was it 30, 40 , 50 yards out..... were they synchronised as the ever decreased their circles...... You say you think it confused the hare..... f*****g too right... the hare would have been thinking.... what do I do here.... run.... or just kick the shit out of these 2 numpties

Just pulling your leg....It's a funny old game hunting, you see some strange shit. If it's physically possible then its possible, just find it hard to believe.

Hi when runing a pair of dogs pre-ban.Witch one do you think had the better strike rate. The faster dog for making its quarry turn.Or the slitely slower one being there as it did so .Would like to here your opinions.atb. Catcher.

awe right catch  .i would say its always the dog thats easily fast enough, but reads the hare and puts the strike in and times it right.the other dog might be slightly quicker ,but lacks the craft.so in time the SLIGHTLY slower dog would be the pot filler.in an ideal world the faster dog has brain and stamina, then he wins. so many permatations really :icon_redface:
