Bosun11 537
Very unfortunate mate but it could have been a lot worse. I've lost two good bitches to timber in fields. The first, a big fallen branch that had been covered by long grass, the bunny made a dash into the grass and the dog broke her neck. The second, a field where the previous night was clear and then the farmer had moved some stumps he had burned onto it, pitch black from the fire, neither me, the rabbit or the dog seen them till it was too late... The rabbit broke its neck, the dog ripped its self from earhole to arsehole and I lost another promising bitch..!! Good vets can be hard to come by, shop around, a better vet can be well worth the travel..!! For some lampers, they know 'their' fields like the back of their hands, where to walk, where to run, good for them, long may they always hold game..!! For others, each field can hold both a world of promise or mysery, the risks can be great but the rewards can be plentiful..!! Best of luck with your bitch.. Quote Link to post

I am a bugger for checking the fields before hand, and many a time been caught out the same night. Here's a prime example, last night I attended a farm, checked prior to going for any dangers, and all was clear. Once there I lamp a particular spot where rabbits seem to always feed stupidly away from cover. As per there were a ggod amount out. As the deerhound thing was running his first rabbit, what appears in the beam, and lots of them, where bee hives (all sectioned off) scattered all of this piece of land. Dog back on the slip and we moved on. Well this morning I called the farmer for a chat and I casually asked him about the hives, his reply was they had been washed and placed along side the hedge row to dry ........ erm no he/she had scattered them all over the field! Right time to play on the playstaion Quote Link to post
