Is it a diet 2 rich in protein that causes this? If so how much is 2 much ? Got me worried now it was just one of those things mate yep it gutted me but she was in pain so it had to be done she was a great dog . its in the dogs genes mate dont worry they were both out the same litter and fed completely different food it was the dogs not the food but in there case they did need lower protein so they didnt grow as fast as one bone in the leg grew faster than the other so lowering the protein would slow the growing proses down a tad so did help Quote Link to post

6pack 60
Rickets is caused by bad diet and lack of vitamin D - generally lack of sunlight. The term carpal - wrist - and varus - bow-legged used to describe the look of the condition. Edited March 26, 2011 by 6pack Quote Link to post
turbotyke 62
its not rickets the vets said it looks the same but is not the same Quote Link to post
6pack 60
Carpal varus is the technical descriptive term given to describe bow leggedness. It isn't an ailment that is the cause of bow leggedness. Carpal valgus being the opposite descriptive for knock kneed. Your dogs are suffering carpal varus - no doubt, the pics show clearly bowed legs - but I would be concerned what has caused that bow leggedness. Quote Link to post
