albert64 1,882 Posted January 22, 2011 Report Share Posted January 22, 2011 got to the spot we were doing this morning and the farmers already out muck spreading so not a good start as there's only four fields on this part of the estate, so back to the van and a short drive to the next fields which i was'nt holding out much hope for as i only had with me two young jills i bred last year and iv'e took plenty of rabbits off upto now, it was a lovely morning showing -4 in the van, first mark was a huge banking to big for these ferrets so moved on and got a mark on a five holer nets on ferrets in both collared, one of the jills just would'nt go so down to one ferret waited for a bolt but it never came so get a mark at 4ft digs down to find the ferret scratching away at the rabbit in a stop end so one in the bag next mark 10 holer nets on no bolt, gets a mark 5ft so give it 10 mins still there digs down to find another in a stop end, the next two sets the same good job its not hard digging on here so four in the bag as were taking the nets up the dogs moved off and is marking a good 20 holer so its nets on and i thought it might be to big for an inexperianced ferret but i'd give her a run anyway so ferret in and went straight away it did'nt show at any holes 10 mins still no show out with the locater, mate gets a mark 6ft nothing for it but to dig when we break through she'd killed this one, gets the rabbit out and the ferrets gone, still not shown at any net after a good 10 mins gets another mark 4ft gets down to it in a stop end takes the ferret up and try at the other end of the set but no more home, so called it a day with 6 in the bag a young ferret well on it's way to doing it's job but could'nt buy a bolt today and i was quite surprised she killed with her being young and small as she can pass through a purse net with a collar on, saw plenty of hares bucking aswell cheers albert Quote Link to post
