How Much Rest

Recommended Posts

There seems to be a fair few threads relating in exercising dogs, and how much they get each day.

I've not seen within these posts on how much Rest a dog receives. I'm a firm believer that rest is just important as exercising.

Be interesting to see what your views are on this subject.

ive read most off that post,,,,,somtimes too much can have effect on dog,s,,,,like us if over streached

me personally 4 days excircise,,,day rest before racing,,racing 6th day,,,,7th day rest

when i think dogs are nearing the peak fittness or at peak fittness ,,,i tone the mid week excircise down alittle,,,as i want them to stay round about peak fittness and most importantly they dont run stale,,meaning there tired and they only run ,,but they lost there spark as they havent had rest,,,or there gettin pushed to hard,,,as there not robots

every dog,s diffrent,,,,,its up to owner to keep his or her eye on the ball,,,i,e know there dog inside out

After a hard night on the lamp or a hard full day out, rest the following day (or night), with just a 20 minute lead walk to stretch the muscles. After that it's back to an hour's mooching about for my dogs. If they are running very hard twice a week, day time running on long ears for example, then just lead walking on their days' off. If lamping a couple of times a week then normal exercise in between, but I don't bike my dogs miles when they're really fit: just easy exercise between real working days or nights. If they want to I let them blow off a bit of steam on grass fields: they're off the lead and can decide if they want to run or just mooch about.
