mole catcher 1
No 2 grade water(Not oil) stone, razor sharp edge on any knife. Secret to a good edge is to keep it sharp and not let it get to blunt or it is harder to sharpen again, A blunt knife is a total waste of time having

Guest Ditch_Shitter
Always just tapped the end of the handle on the heel of my boot. That works fine too. In fact, I think the Opinel blurb may reccomend that. Sure I first read it somewhere.
Guest king ratcatcher
Oil stone is the way i do it, then when it starts getting blunt, give it a few licks on a steel

Due too a bad habit of jabbing them in the ground  i attach string to them all and tie off the other end to something im not going to leave...even the back up mini opinel gets butchered and i haven't lost a knife in years. Guest Macnas
All my opinels, i have 3, small to too big, I've drilled a lanyard hole in each. They seem to some with that already done these days. On the big knife, that I use for jointing, I blued the blade. Carbon steel, so no bother once degreased. looks nice and doesnt get as tatty looking as the others. I use some 00 gauge wire wool to clean the others, works grand. ferreterno1 0
can any one reccomend a fairly cheap and decent knife and sharpner, i bought one of those new sharpners from ebay that goes on your keyring, waste of time, i noticed a decent looking knife at a game fair last year it had a second bade type thing on the top of it for gutting rabbits Edited January 17, 2007 by ferreterno1
Guest The Shaman
I wouldn,t recommend my choice to everybody but it works a treat for me, if you don't have an expensive "named" knife, say a general pupose gutting knife. Use a normal knife sharpener to get the angle, the type that has maybe 4 or 6 discs then use a butchers steel to finish. Crude, maybe even blasphemy but effective, and will do the job.
