Hi everyone just wondered if anybody knows where i can get painkillers for my dog,she had a broken toe 2yrs ago that effects the tendon and if shes run hard can be lame for a couple of days. If I go to the vets he tells me what I already know and charges a small fortune,I used to get them off Ginger French before he stopped. Id rather this didnt turn into a character assasination of him I just want some rimadyl or previcox any help would be appreciated.

I wouldn't give it Previcox unless you really have to, I had to give it to my Mastiff as he had arthritis in his hip, nothing else would work. 8 months after starting to take it his kidney failed and I had to have him put down. If you do have to give it Previcox make sure you give it to him on a full stomach, it's pretty strong stuff and although they say kidney problems is rare I've looked into it properly and it's relatively common.

all antinflamortoyrs will course kidney and liver problems if used regular

I knew the risk when I gave mine previcox but nothing else would work. Without it he struggled to stand up, when he was on Previcox I would walk him for between 1 and 2 hours a day and he could run at full speed (good for an 8 year old mastiff!). It was a choice, a shorter life of decent quality, or a longer one where he struggled to walk and couldn't run. The choice was easy, he loved his walks far too much to be lame!

I would only use them if there's no alternatives though.
