J Darcy 5,871
This afternoon i shot like a complete ar5e! Two full magazines and not a critter in the bag. Honest! Just managed a crow and a squirrel, but the crow was well worth going out for, a free hand shot as the carrion landed momentarily. A superdome was on its case and the corvid came a-flapping to earth stone dead. After such diabolical shooting i nipped home to await darkness. I have just got in, proving that you do not need to go out late to shoot at night. Earlier the better. I have only walked one 250 yard section of roost, but its a place i know holds a remarkable head of columba polumbus. Though the shots were often tricky, many small branches litter the pellets path, i managed to deck eight plump woodies. I guess there was at least 200 in the roost, possibly more. I reckon i could have had double the number i did had i had taken my lurcher to retrieve the fallen, but he was still at hope with a split pad having been out this afternoon. Still, i was happy. Just for the record the wood is about 60-70 yards wide and a few hundred yards long, mainly birch and willow. There were a good few magpies there too, but they can wait!! Quote Link to post
