Karpman 44
Hello, I am sure this has been asked a million times and I am sorry for asking again Here go'es I will be looking at the purchase of a Air rifle with the plan on doing some hunting, Dog in tow. Quarry would be odd rabbits, rats and other flying vermin with hopefully the odd squidgel. I was wondering if to try to go for a FAC all be it getting my self a criminal record back in the early days and serving hours comm service, Or will a out the box AA s200 or similar suit my needs? Many thanks Karpman P.s is was a non violent crime, Mt friend borrowed his dads metro and to teach us a healthy lesson we got the book thrown at us, I also have been caught speeding. Ron Weasley 83
In all honesty mate, I wouldn't bother with an FAC. I don't know about the impact of your criminal record on your application (and I'm sure someone else will come along and give you the lowdown on that shortly), but it just seems unnecessary. A sub 12ftlb rifle is more than capable of humanely killing the quarry you've listed if you're able to hit the kill zones. Good luck! Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 793
hi mate, i'd go for a sub 12ft/lbs to start with, you can always up the power later if you wanna, cheers, wurz Quote Link to post
Karpman 44
Cheers for the swift replys. I figured a FAC would be some what of a long shot, Sounds like I will be heading to the shops after Xmas for a sub 12 bargain Like the look of AA s200 and has a good right up for a newb. Phantom 631
Hi there, As Wurz said, go sub12 (the S200 is fantastic, but maybe I'm a tiny touch biased?) route and enquire with the FEO at a later date if you wish to go up the FAC route. Phantom Quote Link to post

Phantom Cheers mate, Everything I hear about the S200 sounds good apart from not having a gauge. Seems to me to be a sound rifle and a great starting point? There is 3 models I believe? Much difference? and which is the duel stock model like the look of that one. Second hand would be fine also. Karpman Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
You mean ambidextrous? <<<<<<<========Like this one Thats a MKII I'm holding on the left I'm pretty sure all the stocks are ambie on the S200 Mine now wears a MKIII stock. Not having a guage is not a big deal once its filled to its sweet spot you will get 40 shots before you notice a drop off in .22 Phantom PS very good starter! It was originally designed for high level competition shooting Edited December 20, 2010 by Phantom Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,589
Hi Karpman. I shoot FAC air power and to be honest, the Law makes having it more hassle than it's actually worth. I shoot .22 rimfire and centrefire military bolt-action rifles so, I have to keep my licence up. As for putting another air rifle on my allowed slot, nah! If anything, I would say to you; only go FAC if this is truly what you actually need. A higher powered air rifle where a shotgun or rimfire is impractical. A superbly accurate rifle is what you really, honestly need and the legal 12ft/lb output limit, is plenty powerful enough for despatching Rabbits and rats etc. at sensible ranges. Calibre, .177 or .22 is no matter, they both do the job superbly well. With regard to having a criminal record. The police are responsible for deciding who is "psychologically fit" to hold an FAC which gives the holder access to lethal firearms. Applicants with criminal records are generally judged to be a no-no. Simon Quote Link to post

Karpman 44
Cheers mates. My initial concern was if a 12ft/lbs weapon would be up to the job, Seems so many thanks my mind is made up. I will be looking to purchase a AA S200 in the not to distant future! Just for the record my offence was over 13 years and two kids and one dog ago lol, Funny how a reckless few years nips you in the bud. Many thanks Karpman Quote Link to post

19powell90 89
Hi mate dont mean to throw you off but i would recommend the s410 if you want a guage and 10 shot mag.(I dont know if the s200 is multishot) i recently got the s410 in .177 and its fantastic, it blows bunnies away no problem. And alot of lads on here have got one and rate them highly. Scott Quote Link to post
fry 209
no complaints about my 410 thats for sure Quote Link to post
Ron Weasley 83
The new price of the s200 makes it worth considering an S400 in my opinion, but I think they are excellent rifles all the same. Maybe worth considering a BSA ultra too? Just my 2p Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 793
by the general consensus on here, all the air arms range are a good starter choice but it should be noted that in the right hands(ie with sh loads of practise)an s200 beat all comers at a certain THL airgun meet back in the summer. best thing to do? get your cash in hand down to a gunshop or airgun club, try a few different guns, and find out which suits you best, and take it from there mate. and let us know how you get on!! all the very best, wurz Quote Link to post
