beddyx 27
hi everybody whats your view on aa fields and aa hunters pellets , basically whats the difference in performance out in the hunting field p.s i know there is a difference in shape Quote Link to post
RAMCAM 4
hi everybody whats your view on aa fields and aa hunters pellets , basically whats the difference in performance out in the hunting field p.s i know there is a difference in shape The AA Field diabolo pellets are accurate in my rifles out to 60+yards. I would not use the AA Hunter because they are pointed pellets, they would not be very accurate, but they do give a deeper penetration. Quote Link to post

nasher1 258
A pointed pellet is apparently less balisticaly stable than a domed one so less accurate, but the AA hunters used to be more accurate in my S410 than fields so they gotta be worth a go Quote Link to post
RAMCAM 4
They have a lower BC (ballistic coefficient) so as a general rule most people avoid using pointed pellets because they tend not to be as accurate as roundheads, especially at longer distances. You will also suffer from over penetration using these pellets resulting in less shock delivered to your quarry. Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
I don't agree with the over penetration bit. Pointed pellets are way to inacurate to hit a target so therefore they cant over penetrate :11: Phantom Quote Link to post

pianoman 3,589
I guess I have the exception to the rule here Gentlemen. I certainly know there's a lot of sense written here, with pointed pellets generally having less coefficient ballistics and gyroscopic spin stability; ergo less accuracy. Agreed But the AA Hunters are semi-pointed. They perform very accurately out to 45 metres from my FAC Weihrauch HW80 .22 standard rifle, which I was very pleasantly surprised to find. They make a devastating Mink and Fox killer. And my Air Arms TX200 .22 standard rifle performs very well with them to the usual 25-35 metres zeroed ranges. I cannot knock what plainly works well for two of my rifles. This is one of those "You-only-know-when-you-give-em-a-go" items. And it worked for my shooting! ATB Edited to say; I'm not sure of overpenetration issues with this pellet. They go through a mink's head in certain moments of POI from close range profile or beam angle shots but the animal is humanely killed instantly and that's all I'm really concerned about. The Air Arms Fields are superb all round performers generally. My TX200 .22 is sub 12ft/lbs and it performs beautifully accurately with 5.51mm Headsized AA Fields. My .177 TX200HC is perfectly accurate with the 4.51mm .177 Fields, so, never tried her on Hunters in this calibre. Simon Edited November 21, 2010 by pianoman Quote Link to post
