My pack in Australia

Recommended Posts

I have also stayed in Perth, It was Christmas 2007 for 3 weeks, Travelled up to Kalbarri stopping off at Lancelin Dunes, The pinnacles, Geraldton, Pink Lake, Monkey Mia and lots of other interesting places, The furthest south I got was Freemantle, I loved it over there and it was the hottest Christmas Day on record! Love to go back someday

I remember that Xmas, mate. From memory the mercury hit 45 degrees Celcius. Yep, it was a roaster for sure.

Kalbarri huh? Did you see the feral goats in the gorges? They are good hunting and good eating too. There are also plenty of roos on the road to geraldton. If you don't hit one in your car you can stop and get one with the dogs. The number of times we just pulled over on the road, walked 200 metres from the roadside and slipped the dogs on a roo for dinner and dog food that night. Brilliant. (all pre dog ban on roos of course ;-)

You should try to make it south of Fremantle when you go back, mate. There's great stretches of forest down there with lots of pigs. Not the sort of country for lurchers, but great for bull terrier sized dogs.

Yes mate saw the goats, I was visiting a friend so no time for hunting, Not that he was into it anyway. Couldn't believe the amount of roos on the road, I was suprised when I saw the first but then after seeing about hundred just didn't take any notice! Loved the big road trains with all the armouring on them! And all the drivers wave at you!! Saw emus, Feral cats but no rabbits

Not too sure about the other states but in West Oz you can't dog roos anymore. You can still shoot them on private property with the permission of the farmer and if you have a gun permit. With pigs, you can still dog them on private land if you have permission to do so from the landowner. Permission is hard to get because lots of cowboys take their packs around without pernmission and stock gets killed. You'd need to hunt with a trusted dogger who knows the farmer and the farmer knows his dogs are stock proof.

Hunting in national parks is forbidden altogether unless you can get a government hunting permit for feral pig control. As it is now the govt rangers poison the pigs and trap them. It's a stupid method, the pigs die in agony when poisoned and other animals eat the poison too so they die unecessarily. Dogging is the best method cos the dogs will find pigs a ranger will walk right past hidden in a thicket. In fact average Joe can't even take a dog out in a national park for a walk. Not strictly anyway.

As for booking a days hunting. I don't know of any hunting tour groups in WA, not saying there aren't any though, I'm sure there is a few. I used to go with a mate who had been doing it for 30 years so he had permission on private land.

The rabbits in WA are mainly in the wheatbelt areas (east of Perth). They introduced myxemetosis years ago and it fairly dented the population, but there are still plenty about. Calesi virus was also accidentally released a few years ago, not sure how that has affected the bunny population cos I live in the UK now.

The quarry is unbelievable. If you've got the dog australia has the quarry. Roos, deer (sambar, red, fallow), goats, scrub bulls, camels, horses, cattle, donkeys, goats, pigs, foxes, hares, rabbits, rats, mice, wild dogs (not to be confused with pure dingoes).

Actually, the only thing I won't hunt is dingo. I reckon if we can harness dingo blood we are getting close to a good hunting dog.

The variety is endless but the rules are a f*****g nightmare. As a general rule in WA it's okay to hunt ANY feral as long as the animal libbers don't make a fuss. Lucky for hunters there is more country than an animal libber can cover.

While I'm here, though this is not my dog, he is a litter brother of my dog, they are identical in build and size.

You must have had some great times and experiences over there, personally if i was over there i wouldn;t bother coming here for the hunting the laws are worse and your most likely to get a pull of the plod if driving about late at night, although saying that the recent budget cuts on the police mighbt mean it's better now,

England's just too over crowded. Means you can't set foot out yer yard without a thousand people sussing you out.

Stop it, mate. I love england but I don't need to hear about the shite involved. Let me stand proud with the falsehoods of old english life!!

Oh, and NO f*****g SUREENDER
