You'll be fine. Have a good look at the deer recognition stuff, that can be a bit of a challenge, and learn the seasons (you need to know England Scotland and Wales. Also if you're doing the highland course your shooting will be a little bit tougher, but take your time and you'll be fine. The main thing is the simulated stalk, be extra careful with your safety, and make sure you TELL the examiner what you're doing, and why. If you don't point out what you're doing (e.g. "I'll remove the magazine and unload the rifle before I climb over this fence" and then actually do it) then he could miss an important action. The safety there is a 100% pass mark, so be aware of where your muzzle is at all times, and check the shots carefully. Remember you're looking for 2 fingers of good ground behind the target, no dense forest, no obstructions between you and the target, all the basics. Take your time and think about each location and you'll be fine. It's all stuff that we do each time we hunt, but needs a little thinking about for the exam.

That all sounds tough, but it's not. It's fun, and it's informative, go into it with a good attitude and the intention to enjoy it and all will be well. Good luck!

passed no bother thanks for your help and advise looking to come to england and try to get amuntjac or a CWD maybe you can help. Thanks againe for your advise.............alan

Hi Guys. My dad said I cannot get a firearms lisence until i am either 18 and own my own house or I have to pay to do my DSC1. I was reading up on doing my DSC1 (because I have more chance of then getting a firearms lisence ASAP becausei am 14 years old) and it says candidates need to be able to prove they are an accurate shot with a legal deer calibre rifle but to handle a rifle dont you need to have a firearms lisence so I was wondering do you need a firearms lisence to do your DSC1 or not? Many Thanks, Will.
