johno'd 0
Hi, I am thinking of starting airgunning and am looking to buy a new or 2nd hand gun. I have been told a s400 or 410 .22 would be a good start. I am thinking of using it for hunting rabbits. Can you advise any other gun and a reasonably priced scope, plus do I need a moderator. Cheers. Quote Link to post

aaronpigeonplucker 32
air arms s400s and s410s are excellent rifles but remember you will need to pay for charging equipment (either a dive bottle or a pump) on top of that which will be a extra £120. go down the shop a handle a few of guns below and see which one fits you best. you havent given a budget so these will range from £350-£800. these are the well known and proven guns going from cheapest to most expensive: BSA ultra single shot air arms s200 single shot air arms s400 single shot nsa ultra multi shot air arms s410 multi shot bsa r10 multi shot daystate huntsman hw100k hawke scopes are good value for money but if your willing to pay a bit extra for better glass then MTC make excellent scopes. you'll be wanting something in the range of 4-12x44 as this will cover most hunting situations. a moderator is important in hunting and there are many on the market today rangeing from £30 to £50. for air arms rifles the air arms brand silencer is fine. for all the other rifles a weirhauch mod would do well as these are very good. hopes thi Quote Link to post

davyt63 1,845
hi buddy for a starter rifle i would advise you get a springer, learn how to shoot it for a while at paper targets, then work ya way up to a PCP.this in turn will make it easier to convert to a PCP AATX200HC a good starter springer and the above noted by si if ya start of with a AAS410K then your off to a good start AA have never let me down yet!! regards davy Quote Link to post
Sweeney-Todd 208
Hiya John. :welcomeani: to the forum mate. Good luck with your choice, enjoy. ATB. Bill. Quote Link to post
darren watson 14
i bought an air arms tx200hc as my first serious rifle and soon realised that, probably because of its underlever cocking method, it was way too heavy for me, and i hated it! if i could turn back the clock, i'd have bought a BSA lightning XL. a lot of people will boo SMK rifles, but my mate had an XS19 for £ 100 and he killed more with that than i did with the tx200, and you can get the XS19 nowadays with a nice stock and in-built silencer for about £200. Just try to get your hands on as many rifles as possible before you buy to see how they feel for you. and keep in mind, the most expensive might not always be the best to suit you. Quote Link to post
