Home made long net?

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine has permission at a local country park that has a rabbit problem. They have a rugby and cricket green thats getting the worst of it. There a big metal container that the rabbits are burrowing under. They have tried blocking it but thats not worked. It looks like it would be too hard to put nets over but i will give it a bash.

Anyway, they have gave him a load of netting that they make their tennis nets from. I was thinking i could put purse nets down wherever i can, and make a home made long net to go round the the container for any rabbits bolting through unnetted holes etc. Has anyone ever home made a long net? Does this sound like its easy enough to do? Ive never long netted before but imagine the dimensions of the tennis netting wouldnt be too far off that of store bought long nets.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

talking of making a long net, how many meshes do you need of the ring????

14 meshes plus a selvedge top and bottom is adequate  but start of on a loop of cord and when you've done a few rows remove the cord and carry on knitting

long net all round even down, the narrow side............ they will somtimes just run round under the container for ages giving the ferrets the slip, we found it best to get quite a few ferrets in to panic them,,,,,,,,,,,, your also praying they dont kill under

i have dont this container a number of times, one time 1 rabbits ran jumped up on the tiles and over the net,, :icon_redface:

Haha funny story. Thats very similar to the situation i was talking about, only smaller container. Dont think i will be able to afford a long net any time soon but got 30 nets and getting another 20 soon.

Would it be worth giving it a go with the nets? Also hoping theres no lay ups, but could just go at first light so theres plenty time

IF YOU PURSE net it , use the purse nets upside down ..........peg in the ground..... then use electrisions tape to hold the net on the smooth side of the container

do this on the deffinate runs that go uneder it, any bits your not shure about , if you dont have enough nets brick or block up

Funny someone should mention tennis court net,we as kids were led to believe it was good for purse nets,we were only 10/11, and the older lads who told us to nick it were into a bit of deeper digging...:whistling: :whistling: This was when I was still living in Kirkby tho.
