when i started my own business about a year and a half ago i was on the doal the job centre put me on a course and one of the options was to become self employed so i took it they gave me a allowence of £300 to set up. did a fat lot payed for advertising and a cupple traps. then my business adviser got mt to apply for the price of wales trust so i done that and i had a formal chat with some one and recived a grant for £1500 to kit my self out properly. i think you can only go threw the princes trust if you are under 25. other than that its just bank loans etc you can try take but you have to go through a load of shit and i coudent be arsed you have to give them your bussines plan what you think your income and expenditure will be how much profit and all that shit ware as with the princes trust i had support and its still there when i need it. hope that helps a little

It's a hell of a lot harder right now to secure a loan, never mind a grant. The Prince's Trust, Buisiness Link, Chamber Of Commerce etc. have all pretty much had their budgets killed off this last year or so for small start up's like your's.....

I'm in a similar situation to you, over the last three years and ploughing nearly 30 grand of my own cash into my own buisiness, I've tried and better tried to get a loan or a grant to help pay for a marketing budget. No joy, none of them wanted to know, no cash in the pot for little old me.....

I've just had to give away an equity share of my company to a marketing firm to move things on.

Unless you're starting some bullshit lesbian theatre group or some other PC crap you've little chance these days.

I'm sorry if I sound negative but that's just the way it is.

Give it a go though, you've nothing to lose and I really, REALLY hope you get a result.

Have a word with the job centre about getting a proper business plan put together, always helps.

Cheers.

Bout 12 year ago spoke to the Princes trust, I was just about the upper age I think. They would have loaned me some money if I jumped through hoops, and ive never been one to borrow anything. So in the end just started very small and part time after my day job, got there in the end, maybe took 6 or 8 months longer than if id borrowed the money, but a valuable 6 - 8 months. Looking back I wouldnt have done much different.
