To sort the noise - stick a piece of gaffa over the speaker. You can always peel it back if its too quiet. To be honest at this time of year i use it a lot more to find the ferrets above ground as where we are ferreting is often under a mass of vegetation, so we just collar them up and let them go at the edge of the cover and they find the holes themselves and bolt for the dogs.

Like you mate I've been at the job all my life and for the last 20 odd years used mrk1 locators and found them to be superb.never thought I'd buy a "disco carrot" as I thought they were to complicated for the job in question and I'd never be able to put up with that noise but at the beginig of last season i bit the bullet and bought one and a couple of collars to give it a go. to my supprise Ifound it to be a greaat peice of kit and I mastered it on the first outing and my 10yr old daughter git to grips with it before I did. Also the noise can be turned down via the pinpointer on the back if required so you only get the funnky tunes at about 6 inches or so if you cant put up with it.I still never go out without a grey box in my bag for back up but as they pick up the new collars but I have to admit I have been converted.
